Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Passeneger bank too rich

Postby autosay97 » Fri Feb 05, 2010 10:40 am

I am having some problems starting my modular swap coupe. Engine is a lincoln mark viii converted to cobra specs with 4r70w. ECU is 93 mark viii. The problem is the motor will crank and barely stay running but there there is so much fuel coming thru the passenger bank that it will eventually ignite outside of the car and catch fire. I have outed it twice...don't want to try to start again until I get some ideas of whats possibly causing this. What has an impact on 1 bank alone? All of the kamrf's have been cleared and it still does this. Is it an o2 sensor issue? I was under the impression that the ecu doesn't really even look at the o2's until closed loop. Is there anything I can do with my base tweecer to prohibit this? Any help would be awesome!

I'd start looking for an injector that's stuck open.

A base TwEECer is only going to let you change the tune. It's not going to let you see what's happening and why the EEC might be commanding some Injector PW you don't expect. Although even if you could confirm that the tune wasn't at fault, you are back to looking for physical problems. So with what you got, I 2nd the previous comment, start confirming/ruling out a stuck injector. Also you might want to confirm fuel line pressure too although if it was fuel line related, I'd expect that would be affecting both banks equally.

What changes have you done to the tune? And what changes, specifically, have you done to the engine? I'm not familiar with what "Cobra Spec" is, so it'd be nice to have a list indicating what you've done.

You can upgrade the tweecer to an rt unit, but look for a leaky injector first or bad fpr leaking fuel into the intake due to a bad diaphram in the unit.

keep in mind those ecu's aren't that well support AFAIK

I remember people trying to swap those to different ecu's just for that reason.

Injector was hung open, removed it and I could blow thru it...Crunk right up after that on the stock tune!

Not as glad as I was lol, picked the set of injectors up off ebay and were supposedly "rebuilt and flow tested"....
