I thought that Decipha's 10pt curve was just to get you in the ball park, you know, only having to move a few data points instead of 30. But I thought that once you got the basic 10pt curve closer to where you start seeing results, that you would then stretch it back out to a 30 pt curve. Did I miss something here? I have only done two 90mm LMAF's before and found Decipha's listed curve basically spot on each time. Both cars had different shape inlet tracts, which affected it by a few % but thats all.

It was but when I went to make a 30 point out of it through the maf fitting tool the car did not respond all that well to it.

Just wanted to bring the topic back with an update.

So I installed 42# motorsport green top injectors in preparation for the s-trim install. I input the motorsport specs for the injectors and the 02' lmaf factory curve. I couldnt help but to notice that I am still reducing the curve by 15% to get it close to acceptable. I thought being that everything matched now that things would be alot closer.

injectors have nothing to do with maf

try loading the old curve back in

The 10 point curve I had dialed in for the 30#'s?

Almost every car I have put an Lmaf on has needed the curve reduced about 10%. I use the curve right out of a 2002 lightning. Never understood why but it has been consistent. Just an observation from over hear in left field for you.

I think the 4" home made power pipe I am using is making me lean it out 15%. I started with the same curve as you did so I guess I am in left field with you. Seems like I am on the right track.

I am confused on why I would want to change the injector settings?

Philisophical vs practical.

Philisophically, you shouldn't need to change injector parameters if what's changed is the MAF.

Practically speaking though, if the MAF has changed across the board and the amount it changed isn't known, you can rough-in the difference with injector parameters. Once you get the engine running better, you can continue modifying the MAF curve and backing off your slope changes to gradually get your slope values back to what they were...if you care. As long as the engine is getting the fuel and spark advance it wants, when it wants them, it doesn't really matter which parameters you change to attain that.

Even if philosophy trumps practicality for you, viewing what the datalogs look like in EA for injector slope/bp calculation might give interesting insight. Then again, it might just be an anecdotal distraction.

Interestingly enough I talked to Clint about it and he feels I should set the injectors to the motorsport settings and forget about them and just dial in the maf since its not in the original intended intake track.

interesting enough someone here recently discredited the published info when their injectors sprayed less than 36 lbs/hr something like 34 sumtin' iirc

clint has a good idea though, go for it, so many ways to go about it i was just stating the fastest

I would like to know who that was or where the thread is.

Moving on. It seems to me that the age old theory of defining the actual known maf curve for the maf installed and defining the actual known injectors for the injectors being used is just that...a theory. I thought for sure by using an lmaf and matching 42# injectors and defining the actual maf curve and injector settings in the ecm like what would have come from Ford would have been plug and play. Appearantly that is not the case.

did you put in the motorsport values or the 02 lightning values for the injectors? I don't know if they are much different but might be something to try if you feel like experimenting some more. I'll get the data for you if you are interested in trying it.

I input the ford racing injector specs from the frpp website. I dont have the lightning injector specs in my library. I would be interested in trying them but considering i purchased new m9593-f302 injectors and used those settings I "thought" it would be easy peasy lemon squeezy...lol. I am willing to try anything since i love to experiment with different stuff.

Don't forget all of the calibrations we are playing with were devised when gasoline was 100%....now nearly all pump gas is at least 10% or more ethanol.... The change in stoich alone can cause the 15% difference you are seeing.

Well my laptop hard drive got hit with a virus again so I wont be able to tune for the next couple of days until I replace the hd and reload the os and all that crap. Good news is I upped the fuel pressure to 45psi and loaded the 10 point curve I had for the 30#s and wouldnt you know it shes just about dialed in. Weird I know but she runs great. Shes a lil fat upstairs but shes pretty good. Once I get my laptop fixed ill be back at it and post up some logs.
