Everybody knows we need a tuning manual that will define the scalars and funtion tables in a way that is easy to understand that will define the variables and how it will effect your vehicle. I am volunteering to head up this process. What I need from all the members of this board is to start emailing or pm me definitions of the functions in tweecer that they are Aware of in the following Format:

Definition: What does this function due

Platform: what version of the EEC that this affects

OEM Value: default value

Min Value: Minimum Value Setting for Function/Scalar/Table

Max Value: Maximum Value Setting for Function/Scalar/Table

Description: A laymans description of how this will affect your car

Hints: Suggestions on how to use this feature to tune you vehicle

Please include your full name so I can give credit to all those that help. I will also beasking Mike Glover to review the manual forr accuracy as well as any definitions that he currently has. As soon as I have a rough draft I will publish it on the yahoo board for download so everyone can help find errors or offer suggestions to make it better.

That's one ambitious undertaking! This is a desirable task but will require many eager volunteers. Also, there are several processor strategies that need coverage as well.

As you may have seen in the installation directories for TwEECer that there is a "docs" directory that contains individual MS Word files for the currently documented items. Somehow, these docs are associated with the selected item in CalEdit.

We should find out if the item-to-doc association is externalized in such a way that users could create a doc and associate it to the appropriate item. If this type of doc association is not available, STKR should consider an approach that will allow such a doc association.

With such a feature available, a repository of docs can be accumulated and provided for download. When downloaded, CalEdit will display the appropriate information for the selected item.

A request for a "Tuning Guide" has been suggests many times by new owners. You'll find that such a project would be many months (years perhaps depending of participation) in the making. Pretty soon you'll be very efficient at accessing the answers you need from the BBS services and loose interest in compiling a manual.

If an initiative gets start, I will contribute what I can. I've wanted a way to associate docs to CalEdit items for some time now, mainly at personal notes and reminders. I'd make them available to others as well. Maybe this will get traction this time.

I know this will take a while, I have already started on a basic format/Outline, I think this will actualy be more of a guide to help define all functions/scalars in calcedit and how to use RT. Rathar than focus on a peticular platform the guide will focus on all functions available with a note to what platform the pertaining too. The definitions in the doc files are helpfull but only define a very small portion of the functions as well as several are not complete or hard to understand. I will put out an editable version of the guide that is open to all users to update or send me updates. What I really need from exisitng users is a definition for each function/scalar available. Those who are interested email me and I will send you one function to track down and email me the results to. I will keep track of who is looking up what function/scalar so two people are not working on the same process. If all the exisiting users took one or two functions/scalars at a time we could have the project done in a couple of months.

I have some ideas on how we can manage the scalar/function/etc definitions but have been unable to talk with Mike about them as of yet (guess he has been a bit busy). My solution involves an online repository of definitions which can be categorized by processor strategy/year/etc. It is all an idea right now...and I just need to talk with Mike about it to get his input on it.

My idea also involves an online submission and verification where anyone could request a change/addition. Once it is 'verified' or 'approved' by a moderator from the board or other member indicated as being allowed to do so it would then be updated/posted/listed. There would also be a place under each definition for users to post their own notes about the item for others to see.

I’m a I guess what you would call a amateur php/mysql programmer in that its not what I do for a living but I probably could if I cared to. :]

how about a new forum for "Definitions". Or possibly 3 forums, one each for scalars, functions and tables. A separate thread could be started for each tag to solicit input from those with knowledge on that tag/topic. Once the activity on the thread dies out, the info can be summmarized into a Master Tuning Manual. All threads could remain open, so that any new info/discoveries could be added when/if it becomes available.

This would also reduce the amount of repeat info posted here, and on yahoo. I think some of the experts are getting tired of repeating the same stuff over and over again for the new users, then the knowledge just "falling off" the bottom of the forum in a few days.

The new version 1.20B has an area in it for definitions, a lot of them are not currenlty filled in. The information we acquire should make to the program. This way every thing you need is in the program.

I would definately like to see a manual put together. There are just too many variables to try to figure them all out on your own. Even if we just made a how-to section. If someone know what worked for them, they can post it in there. You don't have to wait until everything is figured out. Go a little at a time. Its easy to learn that way anyhow!

We do have FAQ submission, however it isn't quite being used properly. Submissions in that forum should be COMPLETE FAQ's about a certain tuning issue. Most people just post small snippits and such. Neither I or Mike have the free time to gather it all together in a logical manner. We really need an online based software like I spoke of and have sent more detailed information to Mike about. I just wish he would take the time to consider it and give me the go ahead so this issue can finally start on a path towards resolution.

Jon....I can't imagine how busy Mike and you are. Probably trying to finish off the 99+ stuff and the people raving for the Focus I'm guessing. I'm thinking you two might need some help maintaining the board, especially to get this FAQ thing going. I personally think the best candidate for the job is desmo996. I think he would have what it take to sort bad from good, plus he already contributes alot. Just an idea!
