Hello,

First post here and unfortunately having trouble with BE & my new QH. I have two problems which I suspect are related and hope that someone here can help?

Problem #1: I've had BE loaded on my laptop for about 2 weeks (as a trial version) and just received my hardware dongle from Clint yesterday. BE hangs shortly after launching the application - I see the green splash screen and the progress bar progresses about an inch from the left (I realize that's not the most accurate measurement. LOL). No matter how long I wait, it does not load any further. If I go into task manager and kill the process and try again, it will work more times than not.

I de-installed BE 2012 Build 16 Beta 3 and installed Beta 5 with no change in the symptom. I had hoped that having a registered version might resolve the issue, but it hasn't made any difference.

Problem # 2: Intermittent connection to QH. My QH was purchased from PAS and has one of his base tunes on it. Once I have BE up and running and plug in the QH, it does recognize the QH (Green light in lower right of Dashboard comes on and a little popup says "Quarterhorse"). However, when I try to read PAS' calibration off the QH it's very intermittent. Most times, it pulls back a "blank" calibration for lack of a better term. I did eventually pull the PAS calibration and it matches the bin I received via email. I've installed the QH in the car and it cold starts and idles considerably better than it did before so I'm confident that it is really running off the PAS tune. However, I see no status change in BE (still shows "idle") and the Dashboards are dead.

Any suggestions on where to begin? I suspect a driver issue?

Thanks in advance!

Darrell

Reloaded the USB Serial Converter License last night and after about a half hour screwing with connections I was finally able to read the calibration from the QH. I assumed I had resolved the issue until today. BE hung on the first startup. Killed the process and started it again and it works. I had to hit the "Read" button about 6 times before it would finally download anything other than a blank calibration.

Any suggestions?

Also - is there a way to save the datalog parameters so I don't have to manually add them every time? I'm a Megasquirt convert, so I guess I was expecting a way to monitor parameters real time without having to necessarily datalog the infomation. Am I just not understanding BE? The only way I see dashboard values is to press the Sart button, which in turn creates a file in the datalog folder.

Thank you

Make sure you are using the driver that comes with BE. Even after setting the driver correctly, Windows Auto Update will like to come along and update the FTDI portion of the driver out from under you and the latest FTDI driver DOES NOT work well with the QH. So what I've done is gone into Windows Update and marked that driver as NEVER UPDATE so Windows auto updater won't update it anymore. I can't count the times Windows Update did that to me until I fixed it to not be included in the update process.

Wow! I've heard that Clint's product support is second to none and he just proved it once again. He remote connected to my machine and found two problems:

- I use the USB Hardware Dongle and the drivers within BE needed to be updated. BE starts quickly and reliably now

- The Latency was set to "2", which was too fast for my Windows XP machine. Clint set it to "16" and we tested the QH connection and it all looks good.

Thanks again Clint! I really appreciate the time, especially on a Sunday evening!

Darrell

Update:

Finally got the car running again and was having issues with datalogging intermittently stopping anywhere between 5-60 seconds after I started the log. Tried latency at 16 & 8, but still had problems. Tried 4 and it seems to be good. I was able to datalog for about 10 minutes straight.

Just as a general rule of thumb set the latency to 2 for windows Vista, and windows 7 and set it to 16 on windows XP. Again this is just a general rule of thumb. BE will set it to 2 by default.

Mine is an XP machine, but it's a Core i7 HP EliteBook that's only about 6 mos old. My employer takes brand new laptops and loads XP on them because we live in the stone ages apparently. lol

I haven't tried 2 as 4 seems to be working well, but if it glitches again I'll give 2 a shot. I assume this is somewhat dependant on processor speed?
