What I have now:

2001 Lightning, lots of bolt-ons, and I currently have a tune with good drivability.
BE 2012, Quarterhorse, MNAE0 strategy from Adam

I don't currently have any ability to datalog through BE and QH, and don't expect to have the ability any time soon. I spent some time talking to Adam (POPS) this morning and learned something I have somehow overlooked. I didn't reallize that I had an option of datalogging in BE through the OBDII port. Then I learned that I could also flash the ECM directly with BE and the right cable.

Does anyone have experience using BE and a USB/OBDII cable without a quarterhorse? If I decide to get rid of the quarterhorse and get a DrewTech Mongoose, am I going to be making any compromises? Based on my searching, it doesn't seem to be a popular option. Are there any alternatives to the Mongoose cable?

Any thoughts/feedback are welcome.

I'm not sure how fast or slow the data transfer rate is through the OBD port, but why isn't he able to get the data logging working with the QH? Because he told me the same thing when I purchased one of his EECV defs, so I found someone who could over here in Oz. All good now with 140 or so loggable parameters. So I'm sure it can be done.

If you only want to datalog through the OBD port an ELM-327 cable works. The Mongoose will datalog and write tunes. I currently have a Mongoose, ELM-327 and a TWEECER in my cars. All have their place and work well. Adam, Clint, Sailor Bob and Mike (Glover) are all great and have advanced tuning light years and they always seam eager to help.

the only downfall with the goose is that it takes about 3 minutes to write a 4 bank ecu

the qh still lets you do instant updates which makes life easier

the goose doesnt exactly log all that great for me, i was told its because i dont have an intel based laptop

i personally use an xcal3 to log obd2, SCT has excellent DL support and in addition you dont need a laptop to log

I'm not sure of the technical hurdles. The "hacking" portion of tuning these ECU's is a bit over my head at this point.

A friend has an ELM-327 that I am going to borrow soon. If it works well, I'll probably go that route.

Adam and Clint have both been very helpful for me.

This is the kind of feedback I'm really looking for. So, with the Mongoose writing directly to the ECU, I lose the ability to do instant updates (with engine running/driving), correct? Changing the tune requires cycling the ignition similar to using a handheld flash device?

I've got a XCal3 that I'm not using, so I might give that a shot as well.

Thanks again for all the info. You guys are great.

The Drew tech cable works well for flashing and datalogging :-)

also moates will eventually be offering an obd2 tuning cable comparable to the goose at a fraction of the cost

AS of right now nothing else is in production, the drewtech cable also links with the Ford Motorcraft subscription service....lots of handy tools there, where as nothing else but the cardaq does.

I tried connecting the ELM327 tonight, and had no luck. What's the method for getting this going?

I plugged in the ELM, connected to it with my PC, and opened BE. On the ODBII section of BE, everything under ELM Configuration is greyed out. I expected that stuff to become available once the computer was bluetooth connected.

Yep, another EEC-V guy using both non-QH and QH for various strategies. FYI - Drewtech came out with a new "Enhanced" Mongoose with ISO14229 support about a month ago.
