Re: BBK Fuel Pressure Regulator Issue
The adjustable FPR I bought years ago did the same thing. It would bleed pressure off within a few seconds after the fuel pump was off. This created a longer prime-time to get fuel pressure when cranking. I could not turn the key from OFF immediately to CRANK. If I did, then the starter had to be he...

Re: Does no clutch switch effect tune
I'm curious what the difference between setting 3 and 4 are from a controls point of view. I ask because my tune is setup for 3 (one switch) however my truck actually has both a clutch switch AND a neutral switch at the transmission suggesting that maybe I should have this set for 4? Logically the t...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion
Now that the proof of concept has been proven, what's special about this 2.9L? Has it been internally built/modified that makes it stronger than stock? My truck used to be a 2.9L with the 5 speed manual, and while it wasn't wimpy compared the 2.3L, it couldn't compare to the stock Explorer 5.0L I re...

Re: Rev limit removal
The first thing that's confusing is why you are getting reving limited to 3k. I don't know of a gas engine of the types we'd be talking about here that would need such a low rev limit which makes me think there's something else going on causing revs to be limited. But assuming changes do need to be ...

...I don't think the sensor can really be moved 30 degrees. That would put it right about at the seam between the pan and block where the castings jut out... At least not with that bracket. However you MIGHT be able to fabricate a bracket that holds the sensor "upside-down" such that the bracket is...

Re: Introducing myself
Sounds like you have a plan and a reasonable approach. Of course, there will be issues, mostly likely those will be with solving driveability issues with the tune. Those seem to be the worst. The issues most people struggle with initially are idle and return-to-idle because well if you can't get idl...

Re: Can shifting maps be edited in EEC-V?
jsa answered your question. But I suspect you were hoping for a bit more. But more info would need to be known about what EEC catch code you are working with. If your EEC has support, then we'd direct you to that. Some EEC strategies have multiple developers supporting them. But since we don't know ...

Re: Moates Out of Business
WRT to what I mentioned in the 1st post, I was watching the latest Cleetus McFarland episode where they installed a Heliphant (Demon) Hemi into a modified "mini" TRX. And as part of that install, they installed "unlocked" modules from HP Tuners. So it seems my idea of simply replacing hardware witho...

Re: Moates Out of Business
I had multiple main intentions. One big one is for a device that can replace the stock ECM (and probably also TCM) and allow a tuner to tune the engine however he wishes while responding to the rest of the car as though everything is stock INCLUDING appearing stock to an OBD-II connected emissions t...

Just a follow-up after many many months since I first wrote up the document about the EEC Whisperer. It seems the automotive world got far more complex and modular than I realized. Are there intentions to develop a datalogging replacement for the QH too?
That would be a far more complex endeavor and probably a fool-hearty one given how old the EEC-IV/Vs are now with dwindling demand. But I would certainly applaud and welcome the effort.

It's been a while since I did this to my tune, but whatever numbers I came up with are still working well today. The main thing I remember about setting my tune up for AC were the values I had to use for AC Adder/Subtractor were SUBSTANTIALLY higher (like 10x higher) than the stock numbers in order ...

Yeah you probably should've led with that story to explain what you were actually fighting. Next you are going to tell us you don't have a backup of the original tune that was put in there nor a way to get them. So, now you need to retune the engine. Refer to all the points I made above about gettin...

Re: Changing configured engine displacement
If the EEC reverted, this would suggest it was running a non-stock tune at one point. The only way it could've done that is for someone to have chipped the EEC. These older EECs were not programmable without the help of external hardware. The hardware can range from a simple tune-holding chip to a f...

Re: I have had trouble logging into this site today.
I noticed just now that FireFox is giving me a security warning about the certificate. My guess is it expired and Jon hasn't noticed to renew it. I wouldn't be surprised if Chrome is just out-right preventing you from viewing the site, while FF just warns, but allows it. It's done this before. I'll ...

There's probably a few reasons why that might happen and those reasons might be different based on the strategy you are running too, so if you could, update your profile signature to detail out what strategy and EEC catch code you are running. It would also help if you could post up a datalog of it ...

Re: Moates Quarterhorse BE Questions
When you have the ability to make changes to the tune, there's no requirement that the MAF be "calibrated" to a specific size injector. What matters most is that the MAF and injectors are correctly sized to the capacity of the engine they will be used with. Regardless of whether the MAF and injector...

If you were looking for a drop-in tune to just work, then yeah it sounds like what you got isn't fitting the bill. However that doesn't mean the entire tune is invalid. You didn't mention if the engine runs the same with the stock tune in the TwEECer vs the EEC with no tuning device. If those are the same, then you can trust that the TwEECer is serving the stock tune correctly and you thus have identical behavior between the EEC using its internal ROM vs using the ...

The motivation here is intriguing and confusing at the same time.
