Re: LA3 Code call for OL Fuel help

Im dumbfounded trying to understand how others claim to shove 20# of uncontrolled boost into this engine with the Knock Sensor disconnected AND without tuning. I'm told that the VAM maxes out before you get to the redline, so they enriched the mixture to protect it. Adding Boost leans it out enough...

Re: LA3 Code call for OL Fuel help

I think your on the right track with the BAP since it is a big player for calculating airmass. Have you altered the Airmass Transfer? If you want to post your tune I can have a look.....maybe fresh set of eyes will spot something. John I replaced the BAP, and it runs much better! Pretty much stays ...

Re: LA3 Code call for OL Fuel help

Thanks John!

My cam timing is stock, unless it's slipped a cog. I'll doublecheck but that doesn't explain why it runs lean sometimes. Yours was off? Do you have an adjustable cam sprocket?

Re: EEC Primer Doc

The Primer is a nice start. You have explained how the processor works, what sub routines and interrupts are and so forth. The question I am left with is what does the main program do? I assume there is some sort of main loop that reads what the RPM is, what the MAF, VAF or MAP is inputting, what th...

Re: LA3 Code call for OL Fuel help

I'm running the stock tune. I have a quarterhorse installed and I'm trying to use TunerPro with it. I was hoping to look at what the ECU is seeing, but so far I haven't found an adx file that will let me do that. I'm not having much luck getting the quarterhorse to do much of anything. I tried chang...

Re: LA3 Code call for OL Fuel help

Mine seems to run one of two ways, too rich or too lean. I have my wideband set to lambda and when it's running too rich, it seems to be at about .80 until the boost comes on and then the mixture richens to the limit of the gauge (.62 or so) and of course it stumbles out due to too much fuel. When r...

Cardone GUFB part number

My neighbor fried his A9L by removing the chip with the key on, or so it seems. He's looking at a Cardone replacement, but the A9L equivalent 78-4352 is harder to find and more expensive when you do find one. Since it's going to be tuned anyway, I'm thinking any GUFB ECU will work. Anyone got a good...

Re: Are narrow band o2 sensors pretty much all the same?

I did not check the voltage, but I did go ahead and replace it with a new Motorcraft sensor. I haven't driven it much, just around the block a couple times, but it now runs much closer to stoic.

Re: Are narrow band o2 sensors pretty much all the same?

I did run the HEGO ground from the computer to the sensor ground on the 4 wire sensor (it was connected to the turbo housing) and the heater wires to power and ground.

Are narrow band o2 sensors pretty much all the same?

I decided to upgrade my 1 wire sensor to a 4 wire sensor on my 2.3T swap. I'm running an LA3 computer which used a 3 wire originally. A 4 wire seemed like an upgrade. I used an old sensor I had laying around from an explorer but now it's running really rich (according to my Wideband anyway). I teste...

Killed another wideband sensor

This makes three that have died, the first two were due to an injector that was stuck open and drowned them. No idea why this one died. Are these things really that fragile?

Ford 460 injector settings

I want to use some 460 injectors I pulled from a junkyard. What are the setting to use in an A9L? I searched and found posts about installing Ford motorsport 24lb injectors, and the 460 injectors the same?

Re: First tuning session (Needs new MAF)

I tried dialing in the MAF, but couldn't get it to stay in closed loop. After re reading decipha's write up it looks like I neglected to max out the WOT breakpoint. So I will do that next time. One question though, I know I'm supposed to get the KAMRFs close to 1.000, but how close is close enough? ...

Re: First tuning session (Needs new MAF)

We ended up getting an 80MM MAF off of Ebay. It took a few more parts to get it all plumbed, but we eventually got everything we need. We installed everything tonight, loaded the 80MM MAF transfer from Cal edit and it runs pretty good! I started up Calcon and watched the gauges, and everything seems...

in any case, some had great luck with it and others didn't, the general consensus was to just swap ecu's with maf code for most i know thats not what you wanted to hear but its pretty straight forward and would save a bunch of time and frustration Would that be the A9L or would something with a kno...

Got the Tweecer working and hooked it up to the car to see what it can do. All I can say is this thing is so COOL! For those of you following this project, we basically have an explorer 5.0 engine (GT-40P heads and intake) swapped into an '88 Mustang using a Crane Compucam and long tube headers. I h...

Re: Which EEC to use on a Porsche turbo?

the intel ford ecu's don't have a wideband from the factory, you can make it work though it you choose best bet would be an obd2 ecu 96+ i prefer 99+ with obd-2, you'll have to swap the edis 35 tooth reluctor and cam sensor though which isn't too terribly difficult thats what i'd recommend Thanks! ...

Re: Speed Density tuning

We finally got this car back together. We went to swap heads and found a broken piston in cylinder #7. That would explain the fouled plug and high oil consumption. EEC IV vs. EEC V

Correct me if I am wrong, but EEC IV is OBDI and EEC V is OBDII, is that right? If I am also not mistaken EEC IV needs a Quarter horse chip or Tweecer or something like that to be tuned, while with EEC V can be tuned using flash memory. Can you develop the tune using quarter horse or tweecer and the...

Speed Density tuning

My son has an ’88 GT that is currently running long tube BBK headers and a Crane Compu cam 2030 and a speed density computer. We are adding GT-40p heads, and an Explorer intake. It ran great with the previous combo, is this likely to upset that very much? I’m guessing even if it still runs well, I w...
