How do I test that the TwEECer is still working?

Post by Altered » Mon Jun 23, 2003 7:54 pm

Just came back from a bad day at the dyno. Since I am not literate enough to dare tweak the TwEECer myself (and risk blowing things up - extra sensitive due to the supercharger) I decided to go to the experts.

After they installed the TwEECer the car wouldn't start (I drove it there in perfect working order) - it cranks and the fuel pumps work (actually they never stop working, which is weird) but it never fired up. Also, the CalCon was never able to read anything out of either TwEECer or the EEC ("Unable to open TwEECer").

We came to the conclusion that they had fried the EEC (of course we're now having the argument about who will pay for that!) and we need to get a new one.

Which leaves the TwEECer - did they fry that as well, and how do I find out? If they did, what remedies do I have (I would prefer to to shell out with another $550...)

Like I said - a bad day at the dyno.

Sorry to hear this. The only way I can think of to fry the Tweecer would be to install it backwards and if they did this they should pay to repair it and your EEC. I'd send the unit to Mike and have him check it out. Then work things out with the shop.

Good Luck, Don

Actually, it looked as if they installed it with ignition on...

It sounds to me like the TwEECer is not connecting to the EEC. Maybe try cleaning the J3 port some more to get a better connection.

Of course this is assuming that the car still starts and runs with no TwEECer installed.

If a shop doesn't know how to install a part they have no business trying !

1. Does the car run without the TwEECer ?

2. You can hook your TwEECer up to your computer off the car so can you do a Read TwEECer ? If so then the TwEECer might not have been damaged.
Thanks,
Raymond

Nope, car does not start neither with or wo\ithout TwEECer any more (note that I drove a perfectly working car to the place).

And nope, I cannot connect to the TwEECer neither when in the car nor out of it.

Two of the plastic tabs between the connectors appears to have been slightly melted - when looking at the connector there's a B in one corner - the tabs between connectors 1 - 2 and 2 - 3 from that B.

Then I would say they did indeed fry your stuff and you should extract your pound of flesh from them. Good luck and sorry to hear about your misfortune.

I would have the shop warranty everything. If they did not know what they were doing , they should not have attempted it. Sue them if they do not fix it free !!!
