Unmetered air, how big of a deal is it really?

Post by StangD » Fri Dec 28, 2012 5:27 pm

I have read how introducing unmetered air is a bad thing, and I understand the concept. But how vital is it really? I noticed numerous sources of unmetered air on my engine. I am running a PCV off one side, and also intended to run the valve cover oil filler cap vent to the intake tract ahead of the T. A few things I have noticed...

My aftermarket VC caps are two piece and both leak at the seams. The oil dipstick is not a perfect seal either. I actually went to the trouble to repair (seal) the VC caps seams (after buying another brand with the identical result). Just curious if I am worryng about nothing (which I highly suspect is the case).
