Manual car and EEC 9AL with C4 trans

Post by scottc » Fri Jun 05, 2015 6:52 pm

I have seen on postings that a 9AL does not handle an auto trans like a bin designed for an auto. With that in mind do I need to worry about sending a "change of state" signal to pin 30 or do I just let it think it is in neutral all the time? If I do need the "change of state" do I do it with a relay to ground pin 30 when in neutral or park or is there a way without buying an extra relay? This was a manual car now has a C4 not AOD.

thanks

I know there are posts that talk about this subject, however they talk about specific wire colors to connect etc. Unfortunately different year cars have different wire colors so what I need something more general that describes location, type of connection (ground, etc). It seems like every way I try to connect it I get voltage feed back to pin 30 which I am assuming is not good. Many posts talk about pin 30 or 46 getting shorted out.
Any help out there on this?
thanks for your time.

I just threw in a blocking diode. It depends if you're using the nds for starter interrupt and how you wired it in.

The diagram above is how Ford OZ wired the Series 1 EB Falcon, NC Fairlane, DC ltd.
The ECUs in these were all basically A9L with some mods to the binary for auto trans torque truncation stuff, and some components removed for the speedo sensor input.
We used a single wire speedo input to pin 6 and no connection to pin 3, in fact I have removed the same components Ford OZ did not use on the above ECUs from both A9L and C0S/L0E1 (TBid ECUS) to get the OZ speed sensor to work on them.

I have used the above diagram to wire about four cars, 3 have used A9Ls.
The ones using A9Ls are:
XF Falcon Wagon, 302w with C4 auto A9L.
XD Fairmont Ghia, 351c with C4 auto A9L.
ZL Fairlane, 302w with BTR 4 speed auto factory NC Fairlane ECU(1DHA).
XF Fairmont Ghia, 302w with BTR 4 speed auto A9L.
The neutral function works and logs fine on all the cars above, except the 1DHA, because there is no logging support for it unless you load the Quarterhorse with a GUFB tune, then it works fine.

The wire that is shown above to go to Neutral switch to fuel injection system, is what goes to pin 30.
Ford XF Falcon 4.1/250 EFI Xflow, Eaton M112, Water/Air intercooler,
C0S/GURE ECU, 42# Injectors, 90mm LMAF, AEM wideband, QH, BE/EA.

Ford XF Fairmont Wagon, 5.0 Windsor, A9L/GUFB.
