Did my Moates QH die?

Post by StangD » Sat Aug 15, 2015 7:04 pm

It's been a bad Mustang week. Two laptops died and my tokened tune files are all gone. Lesson learned, I should have had backups off the PCs. Mustang has been down about 8 months as I sucked a 1/4" long piece of lifter retainer clip into the oil pump and she locked up. The pump, not the motor thankfully. My oil pump drives shaft twisted about five revolutions before it snapped. Could have been worse as I had just finished a pass when it happened.

Anyway, I get the new pump in today and attempt to fire. Starts up and runs decent for ten seconds, great oil pressure and no knocking, then goes pig rich. Fuel pump and cooling fan stay on whenever the key is on now. I read here that means bad contact at J3 or the QH has died. Perhaps the QH battery went dead? The QH is about 30 months old I'd guess.

Any tips on verification before I ship the QH off to Moates?

Thanks

That's flat, requires a replacement battery or saddleback.

Is it possible to harvest the tune off of it in this condition? Otherwise I start over but I have notes so I'll recover. Had a base tune, safe and good enough to race so I'd sure rather start there. When I get my DEF file registered to the new laptop I can answer this question myself.

It relies on the battery to maintain the tune in QH memory, once the battery is flat the tune is gone.

That's odd. Not arguing with you, just a little confused. I've never been able to start the car on the Ford tune before with 42# injectors and LMAF. It ran for awhile yesterday. Not perfect by any means or for a long time before the pump began running continuosly. Eventually it would only run 10 secs or so before it over fueled badly. It seemed to be running on the tune. Guess I will find out more tomorrow if I get my new DEF file so I can use BE.

Thanks, I eventually found my tuning binder and one of my CDs. I thought I had backed up all my tunes and educational docs off the hard drive but just wasn't certain. In the end the only thing I lost in the debacle was was my QH and DEF file, which has been resolved.
