Walbro or Deatschwerks fuel pump
I'm looking for a new 255lph fuel pump. Trying to decide between Walbro GSS340 and Deatschwerks DW200. It seems like the DW200 has a bit more flow. Any opinions?

What's wrong with the Walbro? I've run internal and external for decades with no issues, in pretty horrible environments as well. Negative temperatures in Canada and 100+ days in Arizona, never let me down.

Re: Walbro or Deatschwerks fuel pump
My only complaint about the Walbro internals pumps has been the amount of noise they make compared to the TREPerformance pumps.
I've had Walbros go bad, but one was the factory pump from 89 that went bad somwhere around 2000. I can't really blame its failure on being a Walbro. The 2nd one that went out was an aftermarket 155lph replacement that went bad because the white filter that goes on the bottom of the pump came off and let trash get into the pump and seize it. Again, not its fault. It was my fault for not buying a new filter that wouldn't come off. At the time, I didn't realize that removing it damaged its retaining ring such that it wouldn't go back on and stay on. I know that now. I didn't have a high performance replacement, so I put a stock 88lph back in and it stayed there for a number of years and was sufficient for the 302 that was in the truck at the time.
But when my fuel gauge sending unit went bad, I decided I'd go ahead and upgrade back to a high performance pump knowing the 331 was going to go in shortly. I replaced the one that came with the sending unit (another stock Walbro 88lph) with one I found on eBay which happened to be a 255lph pump made by TREPerformance. I figured I'd give them a try, and the first thing I noticed about it is how much quieter it was compared to any Walbro I've ever had. My only complaint about it is it pumps too much fuel!!! A 255lph pump in my Ranger's elongated fuel tank causes problems. The pump is located in the center of the tank so when the tank gets much below 1/2, I can't WOT the truck in 1st without all the fuel being pushed to the back of the tank and causing the pump to suck air which bogs the engine and takes a good 3-5 seconds for the pump to reprime, push the air out of the system, and restore fuel pressure.
The 155lph would do that too but the fuel tank would have to be down near the 1/4 line AND it would only do this when making a turn...not taking off straight. Also, that was with the 302 which wasn't as strong as the 331. But I do recall when running the stock 88lph, I never had this happen. I don't believe I've ever needed to run the 331 with a stock 88lph. The TREPerformance pump is still in there and doing well.
The big question people might have is why am I messing around with high performance pumps on relatively mild engines? Good question. On the 302, it was ignorance. I didn't know better. At the time, I didn't realize that the stock Ranger pump was the same exact pump that Mustang 5.0Ls got which was fully capable of fueling the stock Explorer 302, even with the tuning and header mods.
On the 331, I set it up with 36lb injectors with the expectation that I might run E85. I don't know what the HP output of the 331 is, but I estimated (before it was installed) somewhere around the 300hp range. It's probably closer to 275 based on datalogs. However running the numbers in EA, a 88lph pump was slightly undersized for pumping E10 gasoline and WAY undersized for pumping E85 to a 300hp engine. A 155lph gave me a 30% margin running E85. But at the time TREPerformance didn't make a 155lph, only the 255lph. So that's what I got.
I've been waiting for years for an E85 station to come closer to where I live. But that just hasn't happened.
But bottom line based on my very limited experience, I can't say anything bad about Walbro from a durability standpoint. But I can say they are noisy. In a loud-piped weekend warrior, I seriously doubt that's a concern. But if you have a muffled vehicle, the fuel pump is quite noticeable when it activates even from inside the vehicle with the doors closed and the radio turned on. With the TREPerformance pump, I have to listen hard AND open the DS door to hear the pump turn on and even then, it's not easy for me to hear it. It's that quiet.

Re: Walbro or Deatschwerks fuel pump
I guess it is good that I browsed the forum and found this.
I would have bought a Walbro but I don't want a noisy pump. My Mustang is still pretty much a Daily Driver with A/C and all.
I ordered the treperformance 340 lph one.
I suppose a 225 would have been enough but who knows. Maybe someday I'll get a hair up my butt and throw another engine in there and turn up the wick.
I had totally slacked at checking the fuel pressure on this thing. It had that lame old style fuel pressure port so I modified it yesterday to be a standard 1/4" flare now.
So I was watching the fuel pressure and it was right at about 43 PSI at 0 PSI vacuum/boost and pulled down with vacuum as it should.
I closed off the fuel return and it would make 75 PSI at idle.
But when I got into it and made about 8-10 PSI of boost I noticed that it dropped down to 35 PSI. Not good!
I'm in Arizona and treperformance is in California. So I hope I get it by the weekend. :-)
