Greetings and a question

Post by 4cyl2v8 » Wed May 12, 2021 8:01 pm

Good evening everyone I Wanted to say hello and thanks for having me.

I recently purchased my 4th mustang in over 15 years. This will be the first one that I plan on tuning. The basics are in my sig, but I had to replace the engine due to a crack in the original block. I used a salvage yard engine out of a 96 explorer. I swapped out the cam to the factory 87 cam and replace some small components like timing chain, oil pump, new gaskets, etc. I have smoke checked the entire engine and it is tight as a drum.

I had planned on using the factory speed density system for now until I source the parts for either an a9l or CBAZA swap. The car runs, but wont idle at anything under 1100 rpm. I think that I am too lean, from the increased airflow coming from the gt40 heads and intake, TB/EGR spacer, cold air kit and full exhaust. I have purchased and installed a Quarterhorse and plan on using Tunerpro RT for the tuning.

I would like to get a wideband to simplify tuning and get more data on the engine A/F ratio. I was hoping to get some feedback on my plan to use a AEM wideband and a Model DI-1100 DataQ logger with Tuner Pro RT.

Are there any know incompatibility issues with either of these pieces and tuner pro? Anyone here used this combo with Tuner Pro? Comments? I don't want to purchase something that wont work, and would like hear what everyone is doing to get wideband data without using the 5v EGR work around.

Thanks for any help and feedback you want to give, I appreciate any help and guidance.

K.

Welcome.

Tpro rt accepts a single data stream. That means the qh OR another.
So a QH with a Superlogger in series is one Moates data stream for Tpro rt.

BE can handle multiple data streams as purchased withe the BE license.

You could use a superlogger input for WB.
You could use a WB with serial data stream compatible to BE.
Cheers

When I spoke to moates about purchasing the QH I was told that the superlogger was no longer available.

And if there is no other way to get 2 inputs into TP RT, I guess I will have to make an adapter pin setup for the EGR work around.

Thanks for the clean explanation.

I was bummed as well.

Maybe BE is the way to go though. I was hoping to use TP but i dont want to have to disable the EGR and/or keep switching pins out to data log a wideband. The superlogger was like $250 i think so that would cover the cost of BE with a dongle and the dataq logger.

Too bad there is no plugin for TP to interface with a dataq module.

Choices choices.

ETA :
Maybe upgrade to the cbaza 94-95 comp. I already have the mass air sensor. I read the the auto computers have a second 5v reference for the auto trans temp sensor that can be adapted to log a wideband signal.

I think BE is the choice if you want extra logging I/O.

A plugin could be written for TP but you can't talk to the QH at the same time.

I'd expect the trans temp to have bias or pullup resistors tied to the input. Not tested it though.
If it is the case then it would bias the WB reading, so not ideal.
