EEC codes

Post by venomstang » Sun Oct 20, 2002 1:02 pm

When I let my car warm up to about 150* it starts to get a very bad surging idle followed with a "check engine" signal. If I step on the gas it goes away. If I drive the car it runs fine until I take my foot of the gas and the idle drops to about 1000 I get the check engine signal again and the rough idle, but as soon as I step on the gas it goes away.

I had a friend of a friend hook up his Snapon scanner for me and he came up with a if memory serves me correctly a code 56 "MAF SENSOR OUT OF RANGE" , another reading that said "LOW VOLTAGE TO MAF"
and a reading that said there was a "ECA system problem"
He's not a performance mechanic but he told me that either my MAF electronics could be bad or the computer could be bad also

I disconnected my battery for 30min to clear the codes and tried to adjust my MAF max voltage to 4.999 just to see what would happen but it ran worse.

Please feel free to offer any help

How did your MAF voltage act when you were having these problems. Might want to post a datalog file for everyone to look at.

You'll need to find a server to host the file...Or you can upload it to the Tweecer Yahoo group. I think Mike added a section for log files.

make sure they are compressed as tight as possible and they will be deleted eventually.

I think I might have fixed it. I looked at my MAF transfer graph and noticed that it looked like something was wrong so I made a few changes, disconnected my battery to clear the codes, started up fine, idled fine, drove around for a couple of miles with no problems at all, check engine light never came on at all. So I far so good. I hope and think it was more user error then anything.

Dum Dum me.

A lot of times a maf "calibrated" for larger injectors will set this code since the voltage is caled back by the old injector size/new injector size. I believe there is also a minimum MAF voltage setting, just lower it and that should help with the CE light.
Thanks,

Yea that's one of the settings that I changed, I lowered it to "0".
Is that to low?
It seems to work ok for me at that setting.
