Best technique for tapping into EEC wires?

Post by robtmc » Tue Sep 20, 2005 6:12 pm

I've used several ways to tap into an electrical line in the past, like the snapon things that bite through the insulation, striping off a small length of insulation and soldering/taping, etc. Not real happy with any of them. Anyone have a non-destructive technique for reliable and well insulated tapping?

What are you trying to tap into. I taped into the EVP and TPS. I went to the local junk yard and and grabed the connectors. I then made a small jumper with a female on one end and the male on the other. This allowed me just simply plug in and go. No cutting !!!!

I need RPM (spout will do), MAF, sensor ground, TPS, maybe one O2 line for simulated narrowband ouptut. This is for datalogging with the Zeitronix software. I wanted to keep it neat and tap in near the EEC connector. Have enough stuff strung through the firewall, and want to avoid potential shorting of any signals and keep it simple.

The only way to do that would be to simulate a breakout box. You need a female and male end of the main EEC connectors. I believe 'FordFuelInjection.com' may have them. You will then need to create a jumper using those connectors. You can then tap into any and all signals.

The Ford Breakout box works great for this.

Thought of these, but fordfuelinjection.com only sells one sex connector, minus pins. The breakout box would work fine, but the few I have seen on Ebay are $$$.

What has worked for selected signals so far is using the Pro-M PIH adapter box and tapping into the leads there. But eventually I want to try tuning with the J4J1 again, so getting into the main EEC harness was the goal.

Guess I need to think on this some more.

buy the EEC-IV terminals.

remove the original terminal you need from the connector.
Cut off the original terminal.
Add 2nd wire and crimp both in the new terminal.
run the 2nd wire(s) to your Zeitronix.

You could add a weatherpack connector (or two) so everything is removable.

Now, that sounds like a bulletproof solution. Could bring out a slew of signals needed now and possibly future needs. Never took the connector apart, but know it is not a big deal.

I need to buy some stuff from fordfuelinjection.com anyways..........

Thanks,
