Car runs bad w/Tweecer, good when removed?

Post by over40fiveoh » Sun May 04, 2003 12:22 pm

Just bought the TweecerRT several weeks ago with driveway tune. Mike sent a great initial file based on my combo. Really made driveability better, especially cold start/driveaway. Sent a follow on due to some bucking a light loads/part throttle...then about 2-3 days later car ran like the MAF connector was loose?? Car ran like crap. Tried different positions like where stock A3M1 file is, and still ran bad. Figured it was the car. Two days of troubleshooting and could not find anything definitive. Replaced O2 sensors in the process...as I had a code 41 (Right HEGO lean and/or no switching). Swapped HEGO's and code set for left side, so figured one HEGO bad, although troubleshooting did not validate this. Car still ran like crap.

Finally thought, let me isolate car from the Tweecer. Car runs fine for 2-3 days now w/o a hiccup. Also, had cleared codes and so forth and the car has not tripped a code past 2-3 days. I think it had me chasing ghosts!

Took TweecerRT in the house and hooked up to laptop. I can still read/write to the Tweecer and nothing unusual. The ECM connector is really clean per instruction manual...no abrasive used, just Q-tip and alcohol.

Any ideas? I left the laptop cable on the Tweecer so I can make changes...is it possible the metal portion of the connector on end of cable can contact metal and cause problems? I had the Tweecer on real nice with spacers between it and EEC box to stabilize it, and taped it real good with Duct Tape.

Figure all I can do is write the initial file I got from Mike along with stock A3M1 files to tweecer and try again.

Soory so long...

I remember reading somewhere that the PCM case needs to be grounded to maximize noise immunity. Other than this try connecting and disconnecting the Tweecer 5-10 times to scrub oxide off the connectors.

Good Luck, Don
