Fan problems and questions for a 1995 GT
Fan problems and questions for a 1995 GT
Tweecer RT Strategy CBAZA and a T4HO
Software - CalEdit 1.30 (Alpha 7) / CalCon v1.0A7
Problem:
LSF indicator is always showing green in CalCom.
When I observe the fan it never goes into low speed mode (only the high speed fan works). When I look at the LOG file FSTAT only shows “0” and “1”.
Why does the Low Speed Fan stay off?
What should the LOG file show for LSF?
Question 1:
The fan operation in CalCon does not seem correct.
HSF – Shows green when the fan is off.
My experience with most motor controllers is when the motor is running the indicator turns on. So is this correct (CalCon indicator is off when the fan motor is on) in this version of CalCon?
Question 2:
For Fan Low Speed Enable / Fan High Speed Enable – Does “0” turn the fans off?
My Scalar settings for Fan control are listed below:
Fan_high_speed_ECT1_on = 212
Fan_high_speed_ECT2_on = 214
Fan_high_speed_ECT_off = 208
HS Fan – High Load MPH = 55
HS Fan – High Load RPM = 1792
HS Fan – High Load Minimum = .05
Fan_low_speed_ECT_off = 200
an_high_speed_ECT_on = 206
Thanks,
Paul

Fan problem
Go to Autozone and by the simple $25 code scanner. Run the standard KOEO test to see if the fan operates correctly. It should cycle first on in low speed then switch to high speed. If this doesn't work then something else is wrong, not Tweecer settings.

It is calcon that has it wrong. We used to log the actual value for the fan state register which people could not really use in a spread sheet, so we filter it down to 1 or 0 now and have not updated it in the display.

Before I installed Tweecer I had one bad O2 sensor which gave a code. At that time I checked the system with a scanner and the low speed fan worked OK. Just for clarification I wanted to make sure this was not a Tweecer bug before I start changing parts so if no one has seen this problem it must be a problem with my car. This weekend I will check it again.
Mike, as for the question on the LOG file for the fans is there a way to tell if the low speed fan is being commanded to turn on. Are both Low and High fan indicators lumped together to show general fan operation. Also in the scalar for “Fan Low Speed Enable” / “Fan High Speed Enable” can you turn off the fans with a “0”.
Thanks

Sorry but I have been away on an extended business trip and took some vacation time so I have not updated this post. Anyway I decided to check out my fan situation again using a code scanner and found that the Low and high speed fan both work correctly. At this point I’m not sure what to do; I assume if the code scanner commands the EEC to turn the Low and High speed fans on than the EEC and fan relays are good.
Going back to my original Post, I said that CalCon shows that the low speed fan is never commanded to turn on it remains in the same state all the time but the high speed fan indicator cycles on and off correctly. What does this mean? What do I check next? Is this a Tweecer problem?
If you have any Ideas on this problem I would appreciate the help. I know the EEC on the 94 / 95 cars is finicky but maybe someone has seen this problem before.
Thanks,
Paul

Has anyone else even looked to see if their cars are running the fans properly. I posted about this back at the advent of the board with little response.
The KOEO test passes fine, the LS and HS fans work as expected. Plug in the Tweecer and the HS fan runs 24/7 unless I set the scalar for the HS fan enable to zero, then the LS fan seems to run as expected.

I put a new fan in several months ago and I tested its proper operation. At that time it did work fine. I have haven't done any tuning or re-testing since.
I'm assuming all is working fine. My low speed fan comes on at 208. It doesn't get hot enough to set off the high speed fan.

Well, if your HS fan scalar is set to "1" and your HS fan isn't running all the time, I guess that means my firmware/hardware is antique and not working correctly. *Sigh* Guess I'll get a new RT and Fleabay the LPT.
Thanks Daren...
