Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Ready to datalog the new 347, running BAD!

Post by StangD » Fri Sep 14, 2012 5:59 pm

Need a little help on where to start. Fired the new 347 and she is running real bad. Going to be a little tough to get a good datalog as it will not idle, could use a few tips on where to start. Popping out the pipes. Engine is running a base 347 TWEECER tune. About everything is new so can't rule out much yet but very likely it is the tune. Combo in my signature but running 90MM LMAF, 42# injectors. The cam is an FTI (Ed Curtis) and pretty rowdy as this is mostly a drag car. I am a fairly experienced engine builder so for the moment lets assume a piston isn't installed upside down OK? The TPS readings look OK. The 02s are reading about .1V or less at all times. MAF readings 1-2.5 volts as I am pumping the throttle to keep it runnng.

I'll be back on it in the morning after the neighbors are awake. This thing is loud as hell. Hoping for some tips on where to start looking. I'm guessing MAF data and injectors, but a guess is all it is at my tuning experience level.

I also probably better verify I am running the engine long enough for O2s to give an intelligent reading before I post data on this board. Lean isn't what I initial impression was. Keeping it running isn't easy but I need get it into closed loop and am not certain I have yet.

I accidentlally ran on the factory tune for a several minutes so the plugs were really sooted up. Car already running a little better today with only a few minutes run time on it. I will probably change the sparkplugs and see if that helps. I did datalog it in closed loop today and the O2s are in the .3 range.

Got my BE 2012 up and running and making the switch from CALEDIT. It's easy to see the capabiities are incredible.

Didn't want to start a new thread but will if I should. Hoping somebody might be willing to look at my current tune. I've sent it to Adam at POPS but he's a busy guy. Here is where I am if somebody is willing to have a look. I puchased Adam's CBAZA strategy. I took a base 347 tune (bin file) from my TWEECER and updated a few things. Engine has zero miles on it and 20 minutes of rough running in the garage. Changes to base tune limited to the following....

1. I have what I believe is the proper MAF curve for my 2003 90MM LMAF loaded now.
2. I grabbed a 42# injector template off this site and loaded it.

Doesn't run a lot different with changes. It is pig rich and runs pretty random to 3K. Some ignition miss out the pipes. Sounds pretty good on a 3K-5K rev. (Not under load, no way I could drive the car yet) Threw some fresh plugs in it and re-verified base timing best I could with an engine that won't idle. Will try to datalog in BE now that I have the help files working. Only thing that alarms me from CALEDIT datalog is the advance seems way high. 50ish degrees. What should I be logging to make sure I am getting true advance?

thanks

I know this is a old post. Do you have a adjustable fuel pressure regulator? If so what is your fuel pressure with vacuum off. I have mine set to 39 psi with the vacuum off.
What is your Air Fuel ratio?

On the advice of decipha I ditched the fancy FPR and put a stock one back on. Definitely acts much better now. Regarding my original problems. I had a number of issues. Found a vacuum leak, and had to deal with some rocker to polylock interference. I changed out a number of components to get that resolved and am running pretty good now. Switched to a QH as well, and VERY glad I did.
