o2 sensor testing .. how can ecu switch so fast now..(pics)

Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

o2 sensor testing .. how can ecu switch so fast now..(pics)

Post by OzFalcon » Mon Sep 08, 2014 9:52 am

Vehicle : 1998 ford fairlane (australian) 5.0 v8 windsor mustang ho spec..

fitted new sensor....massive difference..

How can the ecu be switching the af so fast now...it seems the ecu doesnt even wait for a response before switch duty cycle...it goes rich lean and back to rich in the space of 2 revolutions...

how does the ecu compansate for slowing down of the o2 response due to aging...

Look at the pics...

1st pic is new sensor at idle...switch more than 5 times persecond...

Another vehicle....same type of car but...

At idle...switching is massively slower...

this is not a new sensor...unknown age...at least 2 years old, who knows maybe its the original...

No fault codes triggered...

IS THIS A NORMAL SPEED OF SWITCH?

This is a 1 year old sensor that appeared to be good but would not maintain CL...it keeps dropping in and out hanging high and low..

in the pic u see it ok then goes rich...not at all like the good sensor

I dont see how the ecu is switching the af at this speed....

could this new o2 be showing a vacuum leak?

The waveforms seem to show a repeating pattern tied into engine revs...its going rich lean rich per cycle...in sync with crank...its like the same cylinder is always lean...this keeps up as revs rise...

This is the old sensor, which was switching very slowly, with 1 injector unpluged...

sensor can pickup the lean spike...goes rich lean rich in 86ms...incredibly fast!!

thought this sensor was a dud...IT ISNT...

Q : what is a normal switching rate....that is commanded by the ecu?

Seriously...

No one knows what a o2 wave form is supposed to look like?

Search datasheet for OEM quality O2 sensor.

Personally i would start from there. I could look that later today if i remember.
