Help with 408 in '69 fastback with Pro Flow MAF, trouble getting AFR/LAMBSE to match

Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Help with 408 in '69 fastback with Pro Flow MAF, trouble getting AFR/LAMBSE to match

Post by jkurien » Thu Nov 22, 2018 1:34 am

Hi all - Happy Thanksgiving!

I have '89GT harness and ECU in my '69 fastback with a 408. I have it so I can drive around the block, and can adjust the MAF curve, injector offfset, etc. But, AFR always reads high and the car definitely needs a better tune.

I'm chasing my tail a bit with the long tubes, lumpy cam, old MAF, injectors etc - could someone take a look at the basic setup? I'd really appreciate it.

I didn't have accurate info for the MAF curve and Holley injector offset, so I used a 42lb calibrated MAF and Ford 42lb injectors to start. I'm guessing things like the idle airflow for the larger displacement/heads/cam is not quite right. I'm considering getting a MAF with a known curve to cut down the number of variables.

It has AFR heads, FTS Box intake, XFI cam, long tubes, Innovate AF meter, ancient Pro Flow "42 lb supercharger" MAF and Holley 42 LB injectors. Stock Fox TB for now :) Using Moates QH, BE, EA.

I've attached a callibration, a datalog from going around the block from idle (880) to about 3k rpm, a filtered log with the first 90 seconds out, a picture of the MAF with calibration numbers.

Thanks to anyone who can take a look!
James

I double checked that the transfer function for the Innovate AFR meter is correct when logging. I did calibrate the AFR sensor in fresh air, though not in a few weeks.

Here's how I got unstuck:
- Ditched the craigslist Proflow MAF
- Got a 90mm LMAF for about $90 on amazon
- Used LMAF transfer function from EA
- Turned idle screw up so engine idles at 1050 or so to start
- Set idle params (about 4) and ICS tranfer function for 1050 idle
- Goes into closed loop with KAMRF 0.996 to 1

Now I can at least get a stable idle to tune. Will work the idle down.

I searched for a post on how to set the idle, had all the info

Thanks!
