Adjust Timing with an SCT X3

Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Adjust Timing with an SCT X3

Post by BrooseDaMoose » Fri Mar 15, 2019 9:56 am

I'm a little confused about the timing options on my SCT X3 since talking to someone else. For those familiar with the X3 you know that there is an "Engine Adjustment" menu to change things like Shift Pressure, Shift Points, Spark, etc.. In the Spark option you can adjust the timing at certain RPM intervals. My question is, when adjusting the spark to fire sooner do you chose the positive numbers (+1, +2, +3 etc.) or would you chose the negative numbers (-1, -2, -3, etc.)? I though the negative numbers would advance the spark. So say the stock timing is -5 degrees BTDC, choosing -3 would put the timing at -8 degrees BTDC. Now I'm being told I am supposed to use the positive numbers but I don't think that's correct! Can anyone tell me what is the correct way?

+ means you are adding ignition timing.

Be careful with those SCT can tunes. Some aren't the greatest.
