Speed Density on EEC-V?

Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Speed Density on EEC-V?

Post by wickedsnake00 » Thu Jun 13, 2019 9:34 am

I know this may sound crazy, but has anyone run speed density on an EEC-V? I know there's hacks floating around out there to convert SD or VAM EEC-IVs to MAF, but has anyone done the reverse on an EEC-V?

I've got a very lousy, noisy MAF signal due to my hardware configuration, and it lends itself more to using a MAP sensor. I've already got one installed in the intake manifold anyway, and this would be significantly easier/cheaper than going to a standalone. Or is my only real option tuning my LWFM table, unplugging the MAF and effectively going Alpha-N?

I've never heard of anybody doing this, but I can't say it's never been done. Most people are eager to move from SD to MAF, not because SD is a bad control strategy. It's actually superior to MAF in some ways. It's Ford's implementation of SD that sucks.

I've heard rumor that some newer-ish strats (not EEC-V stuff) actually combine MAP and MAF strategies together to glean the best of both worlds. Although I know nothing about them OR if they actually exist.

I don't know of any EEC-Vs that did that though. That said, I don't know of any EEC-Vs that are SD. That doesn't mean they don't exist. It just means I don't know about them.

I don't know if there are any TFI Distributor EEC-Vs either. I think I asked this question once and there might actually be some of them.

I think using a 0-5v analog MAP connected to the MAF input would be the go. Set the MAP(F) transfer up for WOT flows at the volt readings. Then apply a mulipliers from rpm, TP and temperature lookups.
