Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Find injector data through trial and error vs paying someone to find it

Post by BoringF150 » Thu Jun 02, 2022 8:50 pm

I have a stock 04 Heritage 4.6/4r70w pickup that came with teartag#, or catch code XCE1, which I understand has the TASC3 strategy. I'm using Decipha's FBGI0 strategy and it's working great for this vehicle. Best mod I can imagine, considering how terrible dashpot, ignition timing and everything shift related is in the stock tune. Thank you so much Decipha :-). As a Decipha tune user, I use Tunerpro RT and Quarterhorse. The only thing is, I'm unable access any info from my original .bin. This actually makes it a little more fun, but injector data is proving to be a grind.

The only info I have is rated flow for my injectors, which is what I've entered as high slope. I've been futzing around with low slope, breakpoint and offset and I've read cgrey8's injector slope tuning post(s) a bunch of times. After a few years of diligent and methodical work, I think I'll arrive at injector data that's really close to stock. The injectors are original stock Bosch with an EV1 connector having Bosch part# 0280150569. I've tried working under the assumption that they are actually EV1's or that they are EV6 with an EV1 connector so that I can use published data from known EV6 or EV1 injectors of similar flow to get me into the ball park for breakpoint, offset and % difference from high slope to low slope. There is a step just off idle that I can tune out but it's still setting 133 and 153 dtc's. While I can get it "running fine" and I can force my mind to think that the 133 and 153 are unrelated, I'd rather not. 133 and 153 do not set with the the stock PCM plugged in. Having the injector data from the stock .bin would positively rule out injector info as the root cause of the DTC's as well as helping ensure PCM plays best with the injectors at very light throttle for best fuel economy. Decipha published my maf curve and I trust it works because Decipha and also my intake tract is totally unmodified.

My question before I dig into bugging y'all with the minutia of divining my injector data through tunerpro datalogs that you won't want to mess with ;-), is how much would it cost to get my stock data? I'm "poor" for the time being and going through a stupid mid-life crisis where my $13 an hour job makes me way happier than my past life job so I'm not exactly sure if it makes sense to just buy an .xdf when the only thing I want out of it is the injector bits.

Any guidance for pricing, tuning or common data addresses are greatly appreciated :-)

If you are using a decipha strategy and tune you "should" already have the correct injector data input into the tune. Have you tried reaching out to him regarding your concerns? Have you tried to compare your tune that you posted to a stock .bin?

I'm using his strat but not his tune. I entered injector data that I just guessed at really.
I haven't reached out since I'm looking for free stuff. Don't want to be that guy.

Anyway, SUCCESS!!1! I was sort of ashamed of myself for making my desperate plea post for info and knuckled down on mining the data from my stock .bin. Using RZASA as a template, I was able to get in the neighborhood of the addresses and after trying a few methods I finally landed on something that gave me plausible data. I went on to find high slope, low slope, breakpoint and voltage offsets. Just took it for a trip to the grocery store and it's unflappable during parking lot maneuvers- and I tried to make it flap. I think I'm addicted now. Definitely going to look for more data like knock and egr stuff. Maybe make my own .xdf 8)

Decipha, thanks for the .xdf's and thanks for the disassembly info. Teach a man to fish..
