Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Tuning problems

Post by jopes » Tue Feb 28, 2006 3:38 pm

See my sig for specs.

-fuel pressure is as close to 39 psi as I could get it with the vacuum plugged in.
-all sensors brand new except TPS

changed the following

-injector slopes, 30 and 38.5
-transmission stradegy to 1
-engine displacement to 408 ci
-injector breakpoint to .00002550 (what ever the tweecer manual said was for 30 lb injectors)
-Loaded the 90 MM LMAF transfer
-edited the cranking fuel pulse width vs ECT to reflect the 30 lb injectors.
-Changed the EGR scalar to reflect the EGR being removed.
-Also turned off the Thermicative solenoids and canister purge

My problem is it idles pretty smooth, but stumbles once and a while, once I touch the gas it starts popping in the exhaust and runs like crab. But if it is idling and I put it in the floor it revs up to 5000 rpms with out any hesistation. When I have it running it is putting out a pretty rich exhaust cloud.

Trying to drive it is nearly impossible unless I am slipping the clutch to keep reving the engine so it does not pop. Hopefully tonight I can do some data loging and see what EA tells me when I am done.

It runs the same when it is cold or warmed up to operating tempature.

I just feel like I am missing a setting someplace to get it running decent. I dumped the carb because I wheel this thing offroad alot and was wanting the EFI for smooth off camber running. Not looking for the last .001 second out of the quarter mile here. Just want it running good. :)

If I missed anything I will add it tonight when I get home.

First off, set the fuel pressure to 39.5 with the vacuum disconnected.

so I was off a little in that part.

I just reset the FPR to 39.5 with the vacuum disconnected. it smoothed out the idle. but it is still popping when when you try to hold a RPM on it.

it is running so rich you can see the cloud behind it. I dumped about a gallon of water all over the engine to see if I had any vacuum leaks and I could not find any.

I am flustrated and thats not helping any.

The cam seems to be OK, what about your loadX at an idle. It should be around 25-30. If it is above 30 it will not go into Closed Loop.

I am giving up for now. Made an appointment at the dyno tuner out here who is a tweecer dealer whom tunes with the tweecer. Couple hours of dyno time I should have a running engine again with a dyno sheet to boot. I am excited now. :D
