Hello everyone!
I signed up here back in October of last year and just finally got around to putting the QuarterHorse in my car. I am brand new to tuning, brand new to the QH, and brand new to BE. That said, I still haven't fully gotten my feet wet yet.
My Setup:
1997 Mustang GT
4.6L SOHC PI
T45
Moates QuarterHorse Firmware 1.6
Binary Editor Version 5.49.11
ZXA4 ECU
SailorBob CDAN4 Strategy
I have been on efidynotuning.com, and that is where I came across the SailorBob strategy. I have the strategy licensed and loaded into BE.
Now, when I plug in the usb from my laptop to the QH (with the key in the 'on' position), I can go to the hardware tab and enable my QH. I have cleared all the tunes out of the QH Config section. So when I switch from mode 0 (stock tune) to mode 4 (the only other configuration open with the CDAN4 strategy), the fuel pump and fan both start running continuously (as they should from what I understand when there is a blank tune). When i go to click back to mode 0, sometimes the fuel pump and fan will shut off, and other times, they keep going and no matter what mode I am in, and will continue to run until I shut the key off. Sometimes its the first time i switch modes that it gets 'stuck' on mode 4, and other times I can switch it back and forth a few times before it gets 'stuck.'
With that said, I assume that my J3 port isn't clean enough? When I had the ecu out of the car, I went ahead and cleaned the terminals up with isopropyl alcohol and coffee filters. This wasn't quite strong enough to cut the lamination on the contacts, so I got some 400 grit sand paper and gently rubbed the terminals until the tinning was getting shiny silver. I did this both top and bottom.
When I started having issues with the mode selection, I went ahead and turned the key off, pulled a battery lead, removed the QH and went back at the terminals with the 400 grit. I spent about 2 hours taking a little off, plugging the QH back in, trying it, same result. Take it all back apart, sand some more, rinse...repeat.
At this point, I have copper showing on all the terminals, but there are still some traces of the tinning in some spots. Obviously I am afraid to rub through (hence why I spent 2 hours taking a little off at a time), but everywhere I read it shows the terminals all the way down to the copper. I just wanted to make sure that I am on the correct path before I wind up getting carried away and have an ecu that can only be used as stock. With the QH out, I can see little traces of where the pins on the QH are contacting the J3 port from it being installed and removed.
I have some other questions regarding the VID block and pats, as well as harvesting the stock .bin (both of which I have tried to do with mixed results), but if I have a connection issue, I assume that is why I am having troubles.
Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself and see what you guys had to say about my situation. I have a lot of learning to do, but I picked up CNC programming and Arduino coding fairly quickly (no where near an expert, but I know enough to be dangerous). So I think that if I stick with this, I should be able to figure it out.
Thanks,
-Darren
