Rev limit removal

Post by RUBE » Sun Aug 25, 2024 10:22 pm

I started studying all the greats here in 2009?
About the time I started to understand a little bit my wife died in 2011
My quarter horse burner and even data log stuff in the boxes they came in with dust on them
My vehicles are much the same as then
I took my aerostar added 15” rims 5 speed trans from explorer with two speed transfer case so I have four wheel drive only when I want it not when I am halfway stuck
Ok gas mileage is only 16-18
I found a ranger with a manual transmission and figured it would be a better match with my setup
Great mileage 25 ish but it has a neutral rev limit at 3k and another top end limited at 4k
I really don’t know whether I have enough memory capacity to relearn what I almost knew before
All I am interested in is getting rid of the limits
Also the gas hog one doesn’t have cel but good mpg always does?
Thx
I know this is easy for you guys?

The first thing that's confusing is why you are getting reving limited to 3k. I don't know of a gas engine of the types we'd be talking about here that would need such a low rev limit which makes me think there's something else going on causing revs to be limited.

But assuming changes do need to be made in the tune, what strategy and EEC catch code are you working with? That might help others familiar with your strategy to direct you what to look for in the tune to adjust.

Your signature mentions both Burn2 as well as a QH. I'm assuming for this phase of the project, you are running the QH?

Like I said before I even hooked anything up my wife died and I have never gotten back to trying to tune anything Everything still nib
Eec4 from mid 90 ranger a2e1 is all I know about it
I have read that ford put a 3k rev limit in if the car was in neutral another idiot proofing
Since my aerstar was originally automatic trans eec probably doesn’t know it’s not in neutral
If you wot it stumbles and jumps right on up to 4k limit quickly
I have done this with pressure gage on fuel and shows no change through the full range
