Removing FMU

Post by n97343 » Tue Nov 30, 2010 4:37 pm

It's time to remove my FMU , I have searched and read alot of posts. I see the overall picture of how to, but. How do you decide the injector size. Is there a way of knowing? The fuel pressure is raised by the FMU, I have read to replace it with a 1:1 regulator. What is the difference? Isn't that the same thing.
These are a couple of tuning questions I have before I begin my winter project . The engine is will be freshen up over the winter, also a new stall converter from Dirtd0g performance.

How much boost? I'm running 42's and don't plan on going over 14-15psi. A friend of mine is running 60's and around 20lbs. The only regulator I have on mine is an adjustable one ( because I had it lying around) and it's set for 39 psi with no vacuum.

I'm see 8 psi at 5500 rpms. the problem is I also see AFR going into the 10's with a slight missfire, and tons of black smoke.

no point in anything smaller than 80s

you can use a fpr from an 89-95 supercoupe, they have boost referenced and should bolt right on your stock fuel rail

but if going the aftermarket route i recommend the mallory

Why 80# injectors. This is a weekend cruiser, one I hope to keep streetable, with a reasonable idle. I have noticed the injector sizes vary, from project to project, is there a way of getting a injector that will be easy to tune and still have good power. If 80# injectors are the best then why. Because I really want to know before I buy some.

A foolish comment to make my friend,

This fool went 9.63 @ 143mph, 1.34 60ft and 6.10 1/8th mi. with hi impedence 50's and 23# of boost on a drag radial. Street driven and track assaulted in the Florida heat. Its all in the tune and set up.
