New look, fixed registration, new features coming soon...

Post by Jon 94GT » Sat Nov 26, 2011 9:39 pm

As I am sure everyone can see, I have updated the look of the site. This is the new theme I developed for the new site, of which the new features are coming soon (within a couple weeks, more on these later).

I had heard the registration was broken and decided to go ahead and toss up the new design...let me know what you guys think...

We've already gotten a few spammers get through in just the past few hours. But after logging into the admin settings, I found that the update reset some registration stuff. No email verification was being required. The update also adds the option for a question to be answered during registration. To register, new users must read the Best Practices thread in order to get past one of the registration steps. So far with these new settings, no more spammers have gotten through.

BTW, thanks for looking into the registration issue. I've been manually adding people to the site.

Like the new look, looks more modern. Can't wait to hear about the updates. Was thinking it would be nice to have a shared area for tunes, data logs, and templates. Maybe a naturally aspirated forum, boosted, and a nitrous forum. Just a thought. Thanks for all the hard work. -Byrne331

Like the old look better. It fit better on my smaller netbook screen. Seems to waste more space now.

Jon, if you can add the Prosilver and Subsilver (old default) looks back, but keep this one as the default, then people could choose which they prefer in their User Control Panel.

Chris, yes...I am aware, however the issue is that the new features which are mostly complete would necessitate considerable modification (as well as maintenance) of the other styles...something I simply do not have the time (nor desire, honestly) to do/keep up with. i specifically removed the default themes that ship with phpbb because of this.

Unfortunayely, for those reasons the default theme is now the only theme. The new features will make up for any annoyances the change has caused, I promise!

What kind of new features?

Right now, on a netbook, the View new posts line is in the middle of the screen. I only see the first 2 topics now. If you could loose the car and tighten up that banner that the car cuts through, that would help alot.

You can set your resolution to 1024 x 600 and you can see what I'm talking about.

Nice work Jon, thanks for keeping the site up to date!

Keep patient folks, things like this can be fixed/adjusted, but does take some trial and error. Just keep politely posting your issues and I'm sure Jon will be able to find an acceptable solution.

My suggestion would be: I do like the outside frame, however I'd shrink l/r margins to match the bottom margin, allowing the center frame to grow more. Hopefully that would not be problematic for the design.

Some more input, the search options section. The radio buttons don't coincide with the choice labels.
Some come out horizontal, some vertical, yet all labels are vertical.
At least on my netbook.

I love the new look. We need to look into re-installing the smiley packets or installing new ones all together. Keep up the great work Jon.
