Ford's Strategy Book
Okay, I know, lots of posts after I just joined... Lol. Only 3...
Some time ago I got my hands on a copy of Ford's document that described all of the strategies and how the EEC-IV ECUs introduced in 1989 worked in complete detail. It's like a 1800 page document (several hundred MB) that was originally in Xerograph format (the EEC4 development was started as early as 1986). The copyright expired, hence I was able to get a copy. Back then I didn't realise this info is just what is needed to make new definitions, and somewhere along the lines I've lost it between moving from computer to computer, HD failures, etc. But I think I can probably dig it up again, I really think this would be the keys to unlock many more ECUs.
Anybody know what I'm talking about? I remember it also had a lot of the code in it too, IIRC written in C/assembler, and AFAIK the code is public domain now. It described the hardware (the EEC4 used a Intel chipset) in detail, how the ECU operates to determine on-the-fly adjustments to the base tables. It was pretty cool....
I'm going to see if I have this on a backup anywhere, or if I can find it online again (fat chance lol...). At the time it was a top secret Ford document, and probably not one they wanted to ever get out, but, oh well... Oh, it also has the names of the people who developed the EEC4 system!
Let me know your thoughts please!

post away thats what the forum is for
sounds promising i've never heard of such documents, would be nice to have actual info from the developers along with their theories, reasoning's and what not
i doubt you'll be able to upload a several hundred mb document to this forum so if you need storage space i can hook you up with access to one of my ftp servers to upload it to, just LMK

Re: Ford's Strategy Book
I'd love to see it if you can find it as well...
Sounds like it has more hardware detail than what the GUFB had in it?
Seeing some of the code would be interesting for sure.

Re: Ford's Strategy Book
Nope that's not the PDF I'm talking about.
I'll try to see if I can find it in any of my backups or if I can get my old hard drive to spin up again for me.
I know it's a Ford internal document not something someone wrote up.
It has quite a bit of detail in it, I don't remember exactly what it had but it was quite extensive, had all sorts of formulas etc.

Is the profanity required? This isn't the corral.

Yup. The whole thing is pictures - technically yes, diagrams no.decipha wrote:did it have any pictures?

It was originally xerographed or whatever so it had to be converted to an image file/scanned in and then converted to pdf - hence the large size.

Hmm sounds about right but can't be entirely sure unless I can find it again. I'm fairly certain which hard drive it is on just have not had time to recover data off of it yet. To make matters worse my PCs motherboard failed so I have to order an adapter to hook that hard drive up to my new laptop. I've gotten 2 PMs in the past week so every one is more motivation :)
I'll be able to check that hard drive in the next couple of months hopefully. It's gotta be on there...

GUFB doc:

LHBH1 doc:

I couldn't find CRAI8 or CDAN2 posted on the Internets. But I think these might be them.
And for extra reading, here's more docs that might interest people....
Tom Cloud's overview of the Ford EEC-IV (and some EEC-V 2-bank coverage): The 8061/5 were Intel processors designed specifically for Ford and never marketed to the public. I don't know if Ford owns the design and Intel just made it for them or what the arrangement there was. But as you can imagine, Intel didn't start from nothing. They based Ford's processors on technology they already had. The 8096 is the closest open derivative. So much of the info about the 8096 is relevant.
Intel's 8096 User's Guide:
www.milton.arachsys.com>Using8096.pdf
I don't know how the 80C196KB relates to Ford EECs. But it was given to me at some point to look at. So I'll include a link to it as well. It might include some relevant info for someone.
Intel's 80C196KB:
www.syndex.org>80186KB
Ford Tuning Notes, not sure I've ever actually read this:
