Introduction

Post by Benboi95 » Wed May 27, 2015 10:13 pm

Hey guys, I'm new to the board and also new to tuning (aka have never done it and would love to learn). I was hoping to give a little background of my vehicle, and hopefully get a few questions answered as well!

First, my truck is a 95 F150 with a mild top end build. TFS TW Street Heat 170 61cc heads, FTI custom ground camshaft, Moss ported lower, 1.6 Probe rollers, JBA shorties, Magnaflow direct-fit y, flowmaster, and 3:73 gears. I am originally from St. Louis, MO and got my truck tuned by a very reputable Bobcat from STL Mustangs in Leadington, MO. Truck put down 231/271. EGR/Thermactor Air/Knock Sensor functions have all been disabled. Total timing is at 28* (I think), it's been awhile.

Since the truck has been tuned, I have moved to Greeley, CO. It is no longer feasible to take my truck to Bob everytime I want something tweaked, so I'd love to learn how to do things myself. I am a quick learner, but have a few small questions (I will scoure the FAQ section as well, but in my short time I have been unable to find my answer).

First, I have been directed to purchase package deal #2 from coretuning.net (http://coretuning.net/shop). This includes Binary Editor with dongle (still think this is hilarious, and no I'm not 10 years old), a single strategy from 1986-2004, and Moates Quarterhorse. Does this sound correct?

Second, is in regards to the strategy for my HUG2 computer. I gave the excel spread sheet a look over from this thread (http://www.eectuning.org/forums/viewtop ... =5&t=12638) but was unable to find what strategy I need. I plan on texting my tuner to see which one he used, but perhaps I can find the answer before tomorrow.

Third, besides scouring the FAQ thread, which I plan on doing, is there anywhere else to educate myself before I get started? For instance, which parameters control what. I have been having some hot start issues (mainly surging and dying on hot starts), and would like to know what parameters to look at for this problem.

Thanks guys, cant wait to get started and learn how to use this stuff.

Thank you very much. I must admit, after reading around some on here, specifically the two threads you told me, I feel pretty intimidated with this.

Perhaps, if there is someone within ~3 to 4 hours of northern Colorado, who has BE/Moates and understands what they are reading in Decipha's very informative, yet extremely mind-boggling (to me), posts I could pay them to plug in to my EEC and help me out =).

I'm a quick learner and self-starter, but I fear the learning curve might be a bit steep for me to experiment with on my show truck, lol.

Anyone in the area do this stuff often?

don't be intimidated with the ecu, its just a simple calculator, it does take a little time to figure out how it all works but once you figure it out its child's play

if its a show truck it should have a show quality tune in it, that means you want to make sure its perfectly dialed in, the only way to get that is through dedication and time to dial it in perfectly

shoot me an email and we can do an online/remote tune, i travel through salt lake city utah, denver, colorado, and casper / pindale wyoming every so often

it is nice to have the vehicle in front of you but its not necessary
