Should I swap out the TFS stage #1 cam for a Steeda #19 cam?

Post by cobramanphil » Thu May 13, 2004 1:11 pm

Subject has the question. What do you think? I just want to get my car at least driveable right now before I get the tweecer. Steeda reps tell me their cam is plug and play for the 94-95 cobra computer. TFS reps tell me that their cam will NOT work on the 94-95 cobra processor (without a tweecer or any other tuning devices). I tend to believe TFS at this point as I am "ass-out" about having any kind of driveability below 3000rpm (shuddering, bucking...and burbled backfires are killing me)

Will I be going down on power production with the steeda #19 cam? :?

I do not know what the cam specs are for those 2 cams but if you have a TwEECer then you can run either one.......
If you do not have a TwEECer right now and it is going to be a while before you purchase a tuning device of some kind then I would follow the cam manufacturers recommendation.............

Thanks Dale. I ordered the steeda #19 cam already and will put it in this weekend. I still plan on getting a tweecer though to tune. Unfortunately the 112 lobe separation of the TFS1 cam is just way too low for the 94-95 cobra computer to function half decently without some form of electronic tuning.

Here are the specs of each cam. I would have probably made more power with the TFS cam, but the steeda one comes close though.... :)

TFS Stage #1:

221 intake/225 exhaust @.50
.312 in./.319 in. (cam lift)
.499 in./.510 in. (valve lift with 1.6 rockers)
112 (lobe separation)

Steeda #19:

Specifications:
Duration 220 intake/226 exhaust @.50
? (cam lift)
.480 in/.480 in. (valve lift w/1.6 Rockers)
115 (lobe separation)
1995 Cobra, s-trim, powepipe, stock j4j1 computer, TF TW Heads, TF Stage#1 cam, jba headers, bassani catted xpipe, edelbrock catback, fmu, t-rex, KB regulator, walbro high pressure 255lph pump in tank, 200amp alt, tweecerRT

I'm running the Steeda #18 (which sounds pretty close to the tfs you specd out).

You prob. lost a little peak hp, but I bet your drivability will be much improved.
