I haven't spent much time playing with the EEC (work hours have been ridiculous) lately but I'm working on getting back to it. Harry's U Pull has engine controllers for $15 this week and this got me thinking. We have gotten pretty good at decoding the EECs to the point where it is pretty reasonable to adapt them to other engines. I've had the idea for a long time of using a later EEC to run a 2.3t. While I would lose the low impedance injectors I would gain the ability to run more than 1 injector per cylinder with some fancy software.
As a more general question what EECs have the best abilities that would be commonly available? MAF, sequential injection, knock sensor, extra outputs (like the manifold control on the 4 valve), coil on plug drivers (so 8 spark drivers instead of the 4 for EDIS) etc. I'm thinking EEC-V. The 4 valve stuff is probably to rare to spend much time on but what about the 4.6/5.4 trucks or Crown Vics? Do any of them share the same EEC hardware internally? Did Ford put the circuitry in even if the vehicle didn't have the sensors, like knock sensors?

Re: EEC Hardware
The Auto Mach 1 processors are about the most advanced you can get with respect to speed and hardware outputs.
The only time the hardware is in the EEC is if the feature was on the vehicle IE auto trans, Knock Sensors ect.

Re: EEC Hardware
What about analog inputs? If they aren't buffered, then the 8061 has all 13 analog inputs already. Are they all connected to EEC-IV pins, even if the car didn't need all 13?BobCat wrote:The Auto Mach 1 processors are about the most advanced you can get with respect to speed and hardware outputs.

Re: EEC Hardware
The other thing I would really like to have is the tripminder fuel flow output (normally labeled DOL). I was looking at the strategy document from one of the OBDII Mustangs ('96 maybe?) and the code is still there, it's either turned off or not assigned an output channel.

Re: EEC Hardware
I did some investigating and decided to start with stuff from the CDAN4 strategy, mainly because it was used in Mustangs, Thunderbirds and Crown Vics. I managed to find a document with the vehicle application, cal code and hardware. The hardware listing was the key. The Mustangs were ML2-334, ML2-334a or ML2-335. The Crown Vics were ML2-333 or ML2-339. The Thunderbirds were ML2-334 or ML2-334a, same as the Mustangs. I then searched the database for anything that started with ML2-33. This brought in some Explorers ('96/7 5.0), some F-series ('97/8 4.6) and Town cars ('96/7 4.6). While some of the alternate listings have a different strategy I'm thinking that since the hardware is the same I should just be able to plug in a CDAN4 cal. This should be a broad enough list for me to easily find something in the JY. I have a '96 Mustang GT to play with once I get it reassembled so I should be able to do some testing next spring.
