Mongoose Lead and FEPS

Post by Dave2302 » Fri Mar 01, 2013 10:34 am

Hi Guys,

I have just taken a chance and bought a Mongoose lead with software 2nd hand, (it was cheap).

Its previous use was with Jaguar / Landrover diagnostics.
Now, I don't know, nor does its previous owner, if it is suitable for re flashing EECV with BE, that is to say whether or not the lead has the FEPS Circuitry in it, and there are no markings / logos on the lead to say one way or another.

Now please correct me if I've got this wrong ...........

In order to re flash the EECV internal ROM, the leads with FEPS apply 18v +ve ?? to one of the OBD pins, thus putting the ECU into, (forgive the phrase), "Flashing Allowed" mode.

If my lead doesn't have FEPS, could I apply an 18v +ve ?? to the correct OBD pin and would it then reflash as a lead with FEPS does ??????????

Thanks in advance

Dave

It should have the FEPS built in unless it was solely a datalogging cable. The software \should require a live web connection with account subscription...if not yo may hae a knock off....I can be reached at adam@popsracing.com

Hi Adam,

It may be a knock off, judging by the disc that came wth it.
I've not loaded the software yet as I'm a way away from reflashing yet.

I wan't to try flashing a J3 chip with my Moates Burn2 first, and see if that works succesfully, before paying the extra BE Mongoose licence then going the whole hog and reflashing one of my ECU's ;)

I know the guy I bought it off, and he didn't say it needed a subscription.
He was succesfully using it on Land / Range Rover and Jaguar for diagnostics, key coding, etc before buying an Auto Logic, which is why he sold it on ;)

I'm not that fussed, as it was real cheap, I could get my money back by EBaying it, but if I can use it with BE, it will save me buying a new one at £450

I have been reading an article on FEPS, and it appears that is only used on North American vehicles, so maybe our European EECV doesn't need it ??

or maybe I won't be able to reflash it at all ??

I do have a fully functional FDS 2000, which was the ford tool for my (1995 MY) ECU's, and although I've not used it yet maybe this or the VCM that came with it could be hooked up to BE for reflashing ??

Or an FDS disc doctored to include my new modified bin file ??

Doh.......

I've got more questions than answers now !!

Help please !!

Cheers Dave
