Cosworth EECIV GHAJ0 ANTI.bin pinout

This is where the BIN Hackers and definition junkies discuss the inner workings of the EEC code and hardware. General tuning questions do not go here. Only technical/hardware-specific/code questions and discussions belong here.

Cosworth EECIV GHAJ0 ANTI.bin pinout

Post by bryndisi » Fri Sep 18, 2015 9:54 am

Hi this is my first post on here (except for the introducing thread obviously).

I have a 1995 Escort Cosworth on EECIV box. I am trying to find out the pin out of these boxes. Are all eeciv boxes of the same era the same pinout or do they change depending on application. I'm after a couple of inputs specifically, EGR valve position, HEGO input, HEGO activation and MAP sensor input.

Also in BE2012, Egr is enabled but there is no valve on these engines. Does this mean that the input (pin 27) can be used to log a wideband on via Binary Editor and a Quarterhorse?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, although I do appreciate this is a rare ecu.

Bryn

Hello Bryn,

Welcome.

No, pin outs vary across all eec's. There are codes on the white paper label. Hardware code for the layout of the PCB and therefore the pin out. Software code for software version.

On our escos there are two hardware codes I'm aware of, SMD-190 & SMD-490, they have different pin outs. There are four different software codes, catch codes, I have seen and rumoured 5th I've yet to see evidence of. In chronological order, CARD, QUICK, COSY, and ANTI. All are GHAJ0 strategy. As GHAJ0 is common to both hardwarec codes, any of the 4 software codes can run on any of the two hardware codes.

Please put your eec codes in your signature along with your tuning software details. It will help you get the right help.

Sailorbobs strategy for GHAJ0 needs to be the recently released version 2f for correct logging. Our eec is a development of a Mondeo eec in terms of hardware and smd-490 is loaded with more electronics than ghaj0 needs.

In the last few days i have been going through the pins on smd-490 looking for useable pins and as it happens I was testing pin 27 last night. It works and can be used for wideband.

Pm me your email address and I'll send you the wiring diagrams with pin numbers for our ST eec-iv escos.
Cheers

John

Bryn,

Could you take the lid off of your ANTI and post up a pic of the inside ? I'd like to see how it compares to the one ANTI I have here.
Cheers

Thanks for the wiring diagrams John, very useful indeem.

One thing I noticed is that my HEGO input is on pin 43 not 44 as listed. I've not checked all the rest yet but wondered if you have noticed any other abnormalities like that.

Bryn
I was bench testing/logging last week and pin44 triggers a lot of Register addresses around the switching voltage of a Hego and even more Register addresses above and below the normal range.

My harness has no wire for pin 43, and matches the wiring diagrams for pin 44.

What happens when you log HEGO ?

Items on the wiring diagram not physically wired are;
Pin 27 EGR sensor
Pin 28 Power steer pressure switch
Pin 33 EGR solenoid valve

Hi John,

Sorry for the confusion, my HEGO input is in fact pin 44. I had miss read the tiny numbers on the connector. Spent a little time cross referencing the wiring schematics you sent along with my connector and a stock connector image and came up with this.

As I have not had the down pipe off yet either to have my wideband bung welded in. I decided to replace my narrow band with the wideband for a little while and spliced the wiring in to the harness. It worked too, and from the short datalog I ran it appears to function reasonably well. Can't wait to get the bung in and pin 27 connected to the wideband output.

Hello Bryn,

I have a couple differences to your pic

pin 8 & 29 - nothing on schematics nor wire connected

pin 31 - SMD190 (CARD & QUIK) not SMD490 as no wire connected

pin 27, 28 & 33 on schematics but no wire connected, might worth showing in a different colour or have a note.

Pin 49, your calling PATS, what do you base that on ?

Pin 53 - Inertia switch for fuel pump circuit

The consensus on this forum is that widebands are too slow to emulate narrow bands well. You mentioned you had an LC-2 maybe they are better at it.

I have an LC-1 installed and also an EGT probe. I'm part way to adding fuel pressure. Another 2 inputs on the EEC would be handy otherwise it's wait for the moates superlogger to materialise.

Pin to payload testing has come to a halt, either I'm having a duh moment or something's amiss with BE.
Cheers

I am interested to add Cosworth's pinouts of EEC-IV on my site.

I think 49 is for OBD socket or DLC more likely of the ISO9141 (Pin7) where you can signal to PATS. Wild guess based on other EEC-IV pin out.

let me know if it looks correct or if you have corrections/additions

I don't mind you putting the pinouts up.

Hmm, I've wondered about that iso9141 / Kline for pats and abs. The ecos has no 16 pin obd socket, just 3 & 2 pin connectors about the car.

Just going to have to hook up fordiag and hope the smoke stays inside.

The cosworth YB is 2.0l, a development of what you might know as an EAO. I'll post up some comments later with the other smd-190 pinouts.

[Edit] Pinouts for both hardware codes below. SMD-490 is different to what Bryn has posted above and you what you have copied to your website. Of course I think my take on it is right based on a sample of 2 cars and a set of schematics  .

Until someone with a SMD-190 car confirms what actually got installed that pinout list is open to discussion.
[/edit]

Yeah, the injector pinouts along with others are nothing like US stuff. The euro eec 's have many variations as well.

Your wild guess is a good prompt.

V6 Mondeo and EsCos EEC-IV's are very close as far as hardware goes. I think the EsCos EEC-IV is Mondeo EEC-IV hardware with an additional riser card and GHAJ0 software.

Looks like V6 Mondeo pin 49 is for ISO9141, so the weirdly named Country Code Connector should be ISO9141.

Hi John,

Had a few minutes to double check things and yes I did just copy the pin details from the wiring schematics without really checking them against my actual ecu.

Pins 8 & 29 - no wires in ecu, listed as fuel pump monitor on pre-95 machines (schematic page 7) & service connector D26 (page 3)

pin 31 - not wired, and appears to be an pre-95 HEGO heater relay

Pins 27, 28 & 33 - again no connections as no EGR system present (27, 33) and I'm assuming the EEC detects the power steering (28) usage through changes in load on the engine.

Pin 49 - 'Anti -Theft County Code connector" on page 8 of the wiring schematic which is all the PATS system connections

Pin 53 - Inertia switch or PATS, unsure as pin 22 is also listed for the same input on page 7 of the schematic.

I will have a go at updating the image in the next few days, I find it easier to follow than the 10 pages of schematics to be honest.

Cheers

It is the differences between smd190 and smd490.

Page 7 has 3 options,
490
190 with pats
190 no pats

The dashed box around some pin numbers poorly convey the version differences.
I'm assuming the EEC detects the power steering (28) usage through changes in load on the engine
.

It would only have been there to trigger an ISC increase. The engine has enough reserve torque to handle power steer load based off idle speed change alone. This i think is a side effect of injector minimum pulse width and knock on requirement for minimal spark angle.
Cheers

Incase anyone is wondering pin 27 EGR valve monitor does work as a 5 volt A to D convertor that can be logged with a QH whether the EGR enable flag is set or not.
