This is where the BIN Hackers and definition junkies discuss the inner workings of the EEC code and hardware. General tuning questions do not go here. Only technical/hardware-specific/code questions and discussions belong here.

Changing the hardware number.

Post by 1gcrazy » Fri Oct 29, 2021 7:42 pm

Hey guys, long time member, first time poster.
Has anyone ever been able to successfully change a ford ecu hardware number?
Anyone know where it’s stored for say a 2000 f150?

What do you mean by "hardware number"? Can you give an example?
1994 Mustang GT, 351w (377 stroker), TFS heads, hydraulic roller lifters, 1.7 roller rockers, explorer intake, T4M0, Quarterhorse, SLC-DIY wideband AFR meter

For example, hypothetically taking an ML2-303 and turning it into an ML2-304 hardware number. The issue is there are getting to be some pretty difficult to find ecu's. The biggest problem I've faced is once an ecu is flashed from one to the other, it can no longer be updated via IDS which can prove to be a problem. If you add the missing caps, lose a resistor or two, change the hardware number then boom, you have the correct ecu.
