CAN bus on EEC-V

Post by Shaker666 » Thu Sep 22, 2022 1:54 am

I'm curious if an old EEC-V box such as my JZP3 or EQE3 units have a CAN bus on the pinout. I have a CAN capable microcontroller with a few PWM outputs I am hoping to interface with an EEC-V so I can poll the ECT sensor and control a Meziere water pump and e-fan, ditching the mechanical thermostat entirely.

It looks like the older boxes only have an SCP datalink interface, not sure if that's something I can tap into or not simply based on not understanding what the protocol entails. If anyone has any additional information on that they don't mind sharing, I could possibly entertain that option.

My last resort would be then to use an ADC on either some existing thermistors installed on the engine to provide analog gauge signals or a new sensor of my choosing. That would almost certainly require the use of another board mainly due to the need for a different voltage divider than is available on my CAN/PWM board.

i believe any canbus functionality would be in stock fords with canbus like 2003+ but that doesnt cover what you want probably. even GMs allante had some strange canbus not quite the kind we think of today
