going from w4ho to j4j1 what else needs tweecing?94/95
Hi All,
Im ready to load up a j4j1 tune into my w4ho 95.aode eec
The 5spd is a tko
I neeed to build the tune so I can turn the key and fire her up!!
I got a pih kit w/a x3z eec for back up in case the j4j1 dont work.
What changes do I need to make?
The motor is a 306
with 11.5 compression dome tops
it has a xtreme282hr comp cam
rpm heads massaged a little
1.6 rockers
24lb inj
44 psi vac offf fuel...when the x3z eec was on it.
THe intake is victor efi 5.0
190lph fuel pump h/p
Im worried about technical stuff That needs to be changed.Any tips are GRRRRRREATLY APRECCIATED!!!!!!!!
From what I gather,it should fire right up with the stock tune.
Thanks
Danny

Danny,
I just picked up my T5 this morning so I'll be doing the same thing this weekend. Is everything in your list new or did you already have a good W4H0 tune for the cam, heads, injectors, etc and just need to make changes for the transmission?
I was planning to copy over the MAF, injectors and a few basic scalars like engine temp and see how it runs from there. Once I see how it runs, I'll start to make changes to the fuel and spark tables. I've made a lot of changes to the W4H0 over the past year so I plan on copying a few things from that tune to the J4J1 and see what runs better. Good luck.

Hey Danny,
I've updated my PowerPoint slides which compare W4H0 to J4J1. Looking at these slides you can easily see the differences in stock form between W4H0 and J4J1. If you think these would help I would be happy to send them on. PM me with your private e-mail address, I'm not sure I have it.
I am doing the same thing by the way. I plan on going to a TKO 600. I can't find a blow proof bellhousing though and I get the impression from reading the various articles that there is something different about the 94/95 5.0's that makes it even more tricky. I talked to Lakewood and they said the TKO will need a custom blow proof bellhousing that they will put together for me for about $700. Also, Ford and Tremec both say you need to lengthen the drivesahft by .625". Huh? Thye've go to be kidding.
I'd like to hear whatever mechanical challenges you have come across in the conversion. For example, I simply pulled the pedals off the stick car I junked and now I'm wondering if the bracket under the dash is different between auto and stick.

Hey guys,
My email is fixthatcat@yahoo.com Id love to take a look at them side by side!
My motor is completly new to me and the tune and all.
IM pulling the 95 motor which was mainly stock and starting fresh.
The 94/95 pedals fit perfect. If u use 96 and up they have different cruise control switches.
vac to electric is the difference.
take the column out and the seat.Unless you want to be there for 3 hours upside down.
The tremec bell I have is from a 92 fox.Not blowproof.
The driveshaft does require the spacer. But with5 inches of yolk, what is a 1/4 inch???I hear alot of people dont use them.I would instll it w/out it and look.Depending on your shaft/bell/tranny/year/yolk its a toss up.
The tranny tunnel needs a little work, theres a small lip tat stops it from sitting right....again...its obvious.
nothing tricky about any of it.
The tranny needs a special plate to get the height angle correct.
If u have an aftermarket tranny mount, they come w/one .
Everything is obvious. My stock aode/old mount wasnt as high as the aftermarket one I got w/my tranny.
Is there anything that is mandatory to change when going from aode
to 5spd in the j4j1?
I didnt bolt the shaft up,but it defintly looks ok.I have an aluminum fox body shaft aftermarket from ford mtrsprt.
Anything else let me know.
And let me know how you both do.
Dan

Danny,
Yes, I made the notes but all the information came from this site and with a lot of help from the regulars here like Rick, Dale, Clint, Barney, Juice, WA2FAST, boss96 (Bob), Chris Mureen, EFIpunk and others. I plan on adding a lot of notes over the winter since I can't go play with the car. Still putting the motor back together with help from legendary drag racer Ohio George Montgomery and his son Greg. They run one of the oldest, if not the oldest, speed shops in the US. The stuff they have in there is just incredible, especially for Ford lovers. How about 2 427 cammers just sitting under one of the workbenches? Or 6 or 7 GM 6-71 blowers and cases? Or how about his Boss 429 Mustang with a hand made twin turbo setup that was so far ahead of its time NHRA wanted to ban it? They really know what they're doing when it comes to building motors, but the fun is just going to the shop and looking around.

I am not sure of the eec changes but on the trans stuff here’s how I understand it.
The 94/95 T-5 trans is about ¾” longer than a fox body T-5. The difference is in the input shaft and that’s why they “94/95” have a different bellhousing. If you use the TKO 600
And a fox blow proof bellhousing you will have to get a longer driveshaft. The yoke is different too.

um one from tremec, I also had a 3550 in my cobra w/o a spacer and it worked fine............zenboy99 wrote:BSmach1 wrote:just fyi i had a tko in my 95 GT with no spacer and the yolk went into the transmission plenty.
What magical TKO did you have to get that to work?
what kind of magical setup did you have that it didnt work??
You're still full of sh*t. Wanna prove me wrong? send me a pic of your TKO in your 95GT without a spacer. Or do you have a custom driveshaft? Everyone else on this thread has said you need a spacer and I needed a spacer when I put a TKO in my car. Go to stangnet or the corral and look at all the threads about swapping a TKO into a 94-95. I've done this twice and don't see how you could do it without a spacer.mach1 wrote:um one from tremec, I also had a 3550 in my cobra w/o a spacer and it worked fine............zenboy99 wrote:BSmach1 wrote:just fyi i had a tko in my 95 GT with no spacer and the yolk went into the transmission plenty.

Are you using the old TKO or a TKO 500/600?
Haha, I got a turbo 400 in my car now (95 Cobra). I got the car with a Fox T-5, Torched the input shaft on that tranny and dropped in a 3550 and it worked fine. I had a FMS Alum DS and no spacer for the 3550 and the t-5. In my 95 GT I had a Old TKO with the stock steel DS, no spacer. The new 500/600's should be the same dimensions as the old tko/3550. When you have a yolk thats 6" long thats engaged in the tranny 75% 5/8" of a inch isnt going to make that big of a difference.

I've got a old TKO in my 94' without a spacer. It's been in there about 4 years now. With a motorsport aluminum driveshaft. The yoke slips in plenty. Prolly wouldn't hurt to put a spacer on, but I haven't had too.

And none of you have vibration issues? You're using the stock 94-95 driveshaft not the Cobra one? There was no way that was going to fly on my car. Bellhousing was indexed, tranny height was stock (spacers underneath) still got the vibration issue without the spacer. Had to put the T5 back in until the spacer arrived from D&D. I guess my car is possessed by demons/gremlins
Then why the hell do D&D and Pro motion say its absolutely necessary to use one? Those guys made me feel like an idiot for not using one, I told them i was just going to use some washers and they said that wouldn't work.
