Re: New BE2012

I believe the ability to transfer licenses is in BE2012 now. As for the registration via dongle, that was something that was actually requested/demanded for by other users that didn't like the vulnerability of not not being able to transfer license in the event of an unexpected failure of their machine. The dongle isn't a requirement...only if you want the satisfaction of knowing your license is anywhere the dongle is.

Now the dongles you are talking about from the 90s were like Printer Port dongles that were big and bulky. These, I believe, are USB and only stick out about 1/4" from the USB port. Old idea, new technology.

As for the licensing mechnaism. If you don't want to upgrade because you don't feel it is worth it, then don't. Whatever version of BE you are running will continue to run and do what it does. Although I don't think the ability to transfer licenses came about until BE2012.

And as for the crashing, Clint has always been more than helpful to his paying customers by logging into their machines and personally diagnosing why stuff crashes or won't work. There's a number of posts here from satisfied customers that have no problem with this fees and his customer support. So it's a bit unfair of you to blame BE crashing on a problem with BE when nobody has determined what the cause is yet.

If you want to share your opinions about your experience with his product, that's fine. You've now done that. But I'm not going to allow members to come here and bash the product of a very valued member to this forum without commenting back in defense. Clint that has proved time and time again that his software does work and that he can maintain a loyal customer base thanks to quality software and great customer support. But no matter what business you are in, you can't please everybody. I guess you fall into that category. So, you spoke your opinion and your experience. Now you have a choice...Stick with what you have OR get over the licensing, buy an upgrade, & contact Clint to help you solve the problems you've got with his product. I'm sure if after working with you, he can either get BE2012 to work or he will recognize that you are unable to use his software with your machine for some unknown reason and will gladly refund you the upgrade cost. He's not unreasonable.

BE2012 has been running flawlessly on my notebook since November. No problems whatsoever.

Clean Windows install with nothing on it at all. On a machine that's run BE2010 on it with no issues. I'm not blaming BE. I'm just saying on my machine, it doesn't work. That's a fact. It's not on me to spend my personal time to trouble shoot software that I would be potentially paying for.

Not bashing anything, I'm a customer giving my opinion. Not asking to be pleased, refunded, or supported. I'm simply stating what I see as a software product that has a lock on the Quarterhorse hardware, knows it, and is taking advantage of that to the fullest. Hey, that's business nobody is going to begrudge that.

Sometimes things are not about price, it's about principal. An answer like "Now you have a choice...Stick with what you have OR get over the licensing" is really pathetic and you are doing his business a huge disservice representing him in that way. I know if you worked for me and represented my business like that, you would be fired before the day ended.

There's a lot that could be still left to be installed/updated. Give Clint a chance if you really want BE2012 to work.

I don't see how BE has a lock on the QH. There are other softwares that support the QH...albeit not as well, but BE shouldn't be bashed because it happens to be the best. And besides, the QH is open protocoled. Anybody can write software for it. There's no lock. Now whose being unfair with their assessment?

Thank God I don't work for you. A sensible boss would get all the information he could 1st before making decisions about someone's employment status. I had a boss that didn't do that and threatened to fire me once. I left his dept, got a raise for doing so, and a much more enjoyable job and boss in the process. And I admit, I got some satisfaction when he was let go a few years later and I still had my job. In fact, I'm still working for the same company now and happy to do so.

As for my comment. I stand behind it. You do have the choice. Either stay the way you are with BE2012 not working OR try to get over whatever ill feelings you have toward BE2012 and work with Clint to get them resolved even if that does mean spending some of your own time to find out what's a miss on your machine. The problem is obviously with your machine since there are hundreds of other computers with BE working on them just fine. And even if this is some obscure bug in BE preventing it from working on your computer, it obviously is not a problem Clint is a aware of or he'd have fixed it already. Until you contact him with the specifics of your problem, he can't know to fix something he doesn't know is broken. The quicker you accept that, the better off you'll be...if getting BE2012 working for you is your goal by posting here. After all, this forum is for people that want to work through their problems by getting advice from others that have seen similar problems and can help. The best advice I can give you is work with Clint to get this resolved. If you don't like that answer, then that's your perogative.
