CBAZA is now running my Supercoupe

Post by decipha » Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:32 pm

On September 28,2010 (my oldest brother Pat's birthday BTW) at 9:25PM I, Decipha, have successfully started up and fired my 91 supercoupe v6 with a v8 CBAZA ecu.

she fired and ran perfectly fine on the initial crank. No surging no hesitation no bucking, absolutely perfect crank and smooth idle. Not bad for 80lb injectors in the mix as well lol. I simply removed the old ecu and installed the new, absolutely no pins were changed as the gsali and cbaza pin out is basically identical

pin 32 needs to be removed (this is the firm ride output to stiffen the suspension, could be left here with the high speed fan with grade load fan settings enabled to let firm ride come on under high load if desire)
pin 53 is the upshift light, i removed it since this pin is used for the tcc for the 4r70w

all pip spout and other spark and fuel related scalars updated for v6

just thought i'd share, for those asking if it could be done... PROVEN!

i'll list the scalars and what not later, right now im in the process of removing my AOD in favor of a 4r70w that can hopefully be swapped in tomorrow :P

update- 4r70w swapped in and controlled by the ecu :biggrin:

what i changed it to / from

//ign degrees per pip 120 / 90
//ignition type 3 / 1 - low data rate single plug
//max pip 1307 / 784 spout rising edge calculation rpm
//min pip 1307 / 784 "" hysteresis
//cid sensor yes
//maf pip limit 40/30
//num cylinder 6 / 8 (this physically changes the fan pin outputs on the ecu)
//pip period slope 6/7
//pips per rev 3/4
//sig pip mult hi 2/1.6
//low 1.4286/1.25

manifold volume 12.5 / 4
injector firing order 14253678
injector output port 11122211

this is the bare minimum that needs to be done

i started with a w4h0 bin and changed every single value over to the supercoupe values, if anyone wants the stock supercoupe cbaza bin send me a PM and i'll zip it over to you

Cool. That opens up some options for folks if their EEC goes bad or they want to do a similar trans swap.

That is awesome that you got that to work. I would love to see if its possible to make it work the same way in a fox body stang.

Congrats! Just in case people cant get a hold of a V8 ecu, do you think a v6 ecu would work? And what trans options would you think are available.

swapping a cbaza ecu in a guf fox is pretty straight forward i've done it before only a few pins need to be swapped

judging by what i have learned i think a gsali v6 ecu has the hardware physically to support a v8 engine

Note should not be taken.... :biggrin:

Can you verify the bold line? typo?

Thanks for sharing... a T4M0 on my 2.3 would be fun...

As GUFB and CD2 say, "The strategy can run on 4, 6 or 8-cylinder engines. The calibration parameters ENGCYL and NUMCYL control the engine type. The user must set both parameters for the strategy to work correctly."

So unless you want to work through the whole bin, you'd be better off changing both NUMCYL and ENGCYL. Then you should get all you need changed, not just the minimum you have.

The fan issue is that the 4 and 6 cylinder code controls the fans through the outputs that were for injectors 7 and 8 on the 8 cylinder code.

vristang... thanks for finding the error, i have edited the original post to reflect the issue i was having at the time of making that post

problem was, when changing the numcyl value from 8 to 6 the fans stopped functioning correctly, sailorbob figured out what was going on once he walked through the binary

mpaton... that was exactly why it stopped functioning correctly, the pin outputs became different

check out this thread for the full cbaza pin out, take note of the v6 and v8 outputs based solemnly on the scalar numcyl

But my point is that if you wire the fan correctly, you should not have to do any more than change BOTH NUMCYL and ENGCYL from 8 to 6. This seems like a way better solution for anyone trying to do what you did. Or have you or Derek verified that all those separate changes you made are equivalent to NUMCYL and ENGCYL being 6 with the correct wiring? Or just th
e bare minimum.

that is correct, the problem we were having was that the fan output pins moved

with numcyl set to 8 the fan output pins are 32-hi, 55-lo, changing numcyl to 6 then MOVES the fan pins to 13-lo,14-hi

just as you stated previously, so if you wire it up according to ford's pin out of the cbaza ecu your fan won't work when reprogrammed to run a 6 cyl engine, just like you said before the injector pins are now used for the fans

i included a link to the full pin out i determined in the post above

just for clarification i do have numcyl and engcyl set to 6

To fully verify a V6 EEC will run a V8 somebody will have to install one. To mostly verify you would need to have a V8 EEC and a V6 side by side and make sure they had the same number of output transistors. The output/power transistors are the ones on the outside that are using the case as a heat sink. Another way would be to see if they have the same hardware code (ie SMD-212a usually printed in smaller letters next to the cal code).

x2 i have a gsali ecu for a 92 supercoupe, the next chance i get i'll swap it out in a sn to see if it will fire the other two injectors, im fairly confident that it will due to those outputs being reserved for the fan in v6 mode, so don't see why it wouldn't work, well shall see i'll post back when i have something worthy of noting, won't be back for a little bit im about to go out in the gulf in a few hours with work

Didn't we run gsali in the 88 for awhile?
I had a mechanical fan though.

x2 yes that is correct but that was an x2p ecu, originally for a 5.0 v8, the gsali sc ecu say m2y is for a v6, im pretty confident that i can simply load the x2p bin on a m2y and just slap it in a 94-95 mustang as the pins are the same, i don't see why she wouldn't fire right up

I asked this elsewhere, but figured it should be here as well...
Could you provide the specific PID's for these parameters?
Some of them I cannot find under the descriptions given...
Maybe your aren't using the standard strategy provided with BE?

Thanks,
