Ok,
Yes this is my first post here. Ive been a Chevy guy all my life and I am trying to learn Fords now. I have an 86' F150 EFI 302 Speed Density. Ported E7TE heads, long tube headers, true dual h-pipe exhaust, and a timing bump to 12 deg with .054" spark plug gap. C6 tranny. 2.75:1 9" axle. Daily driver, thats the reason for the gearing. The truck runs fine as is. But i cannot seem to get anything else out of it with timing. I know I need to move to tuning the EEC system.
AM I IN THE RIGHT PLACE TO BE ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT TUNING MY SPEED DENSITY TRUCK?
Please forgive me for not taking days to read through the thousands of pages of stuff on here. I am a single dad of two under 2 years old and I just don't have the time to sift through it all. Please just tell me if i am in the right place, and maybe point me in the right direction on trying to get more out of this truck. My goal is 300 hp NA. I think thats not asking too much...is it?

Re: Up against the WALL
A 1-to-1 ratio of HP to CID is quite doable, but I doubt it is doable with stock heads, even stock ported heads. Although if they've been ported well, then that helps. Although I still think expecting 300hp is a stretch. But if it is possible to touch 300hp with a 302 what you got, it's going to require RPMs to get it. And that means a wide duration/high RPM cam that is going to be a dog for off-idle torque. In a truck, I'd think you'll care far more about torque than HP. So focusing on optimizing torque at the common RPM range a daily driver uses seems more reasonable to me. But you'll need to determine that for yourself.
I started a similar thread for another guy over on another forum about the Cobra cam. Check it out over there:
Who sells stock Cobra cams?

Re: Up against the WALL
your in the right place
realistically id imagine your truck to be in the ~230rwhp range

Re: Up against the WALL
Thank you guys. I will check out that thread you started. 230 wheel HP? I'd be lucky. A stock truck 5.0 in 86 has 185 BHP. To get 230 Wheel HP I would have had to add over 50hp with my mods....I think that is stretching it some.
Ive pretty much decided to go MAF though if its unrealistic to gain more torque with the current setup. Ive always been a chevy guy, and dang these fords suck. Im going back to chevy's soon.

Re: Up against the WALL
yes a set of ported e7s and LTs should put u at 230ish with your tune in order
ive "tuned" a few stock 5.0s with exhaust they typically make 210rwhp with stock headers and 87 octane
any ported head job should give at minimum a gain of 20 thats not considering the 10 or so u shoulda gained with the LTs
if u prefer chevys then why did u get a ford?
