Adapting CBAZA (94/95 Mustang) to run 4R70W and EDIS
OK - I've done a fair bit of searching on this forum - but I will admit to being an absolute EEC newbie.
What I've got: A bunch of Early Bronco (66-77) guys with EEC IV setups (89-93 Mustang A9L/A9P) - using simplified Mustang harness or custom aftermarket harness (Ryan's). Windsor V8s 302/351 - from stock to 347 with lumpy cams. Most run Manuals or non-EEC controlled C4s or AOD trans today.
Some have gone for complete 96-01 Explorer 5.0/4R70W swaps - using an EEC V and a simplified Explorer harness. There's a guy on Classic Broncos.com putting setups together - doing the harness and flashing a tune into the EEC V box using an OBD II cable tuner(SCT is my guess)
Some of us would like to add new goodies (like controlling a 4R70W, and running the Explorer 8 EDIS coil packs) WITHOUT THROWING AWAY OUR EXPENSIVE A9L/A9P setups and starting over...
Also - the rebuilt A9L/A9Ps are getting impossible to find at Advance Auto/Autozone - and the 94/95 Mustang V8 boxes seem much easier to get... Ebay A9L/A9Ps are even worse $250 to $350...
So I've been reading about CBAZA - and it seems like
A. You can easily re-pin an 89-93 Mustang A9L/A9P harness to make it work
B. It can be made to control a 4R70W (at least for the 91 Supercoupe that Decipha did)
C. It WILL NOT run an EDIS module - FAIL !
Not being able to run EDIS isn't a deal killer, but I'm hoping that one of the EEC brilliant minds on here - SailorBob, Decipha, etc... has figured this out since the last posts I saw regarding CBAZA/EDIS are from 2012...
Or - should I just give up and rip everything out of 96-01 5.0 Explorer and go EEC-V? This way isn't painless either as the Strategies and Def files don't seem to be as "open source" as GUF1/GUFB strategies - seems people are paying $200 for support for their Explorer EEC IV boxes...And the harness rework is "painful"
If CBAZA can't run an EDIS - is there another EEC IV box that WILL do A thru C above ???
The second question is... assuming that there is an EEC IV box out there that will do everything we need - what the best tuning hardware to buy?
My research so far says Quarterhorse/F3 chips for each box/Jaybird programmer + Binary Editor/EEC analyzer for software?
I already have an LM-2 wide band - so it would be nice to buy something that works with Innovate... Looks like you can bring in the wideband signal on the EGR sensor lines?
And - if EEC V Explorer stuff is the final answer - does the recommended tuner hardware change to an OBDII cable so I can flash tunes into the EEC and ditch the F3 chips? But I still have a lot of EEC IV guys that need help - so maybe I need buy BOTH a quarterhorse AND an OBDII tune cable... YEA... more $$$
So - apologize in advance for the long newbie post. Thanks for all input.
Jim

Re: Adapting CBAZA (94/95 Mustang) to run 4R70W and EDIS
your information is severely outdated
cbaza stock in a 94-95 mustang gt already runs an aode/4r70w, no special voodoo there
cbaza will run edis perfectly fine
http://forum.efidynotuning.com/viewtopi ... 71&p=17339
if your going to run edis then your best bet is to use a 99-04 ecu from a mustang/f-150/crown vic/grand marquis/marauder/town car/expedition/etc...
best hardware for all EEC-Vs and EEC-IVs is the quarterhorse from moates.net
software is your choice, I prefer tunerpro, its works better with the QH and you can do alot more with it than any other software out there
you can get a mongoose and flash ecu's over obd2 if you prefer, you would need BE to do so and the flashing license

Re: Adapting CBAZA (94/95 Mustang) to run 4R70W and EDIS
The CBAZA strategy will not run EDIS. The strategy that the A4A1 ecu uses will and that runs on the same ecu hardware that the automatic CBAZA ecu uses.
Re: Adapting CBAZA (94/95 Mustang) to run 4R70W and EDIS
Michael and Derek
Thank you for the quick replies. So it sounds like a 94/95 Mustang Automatic (CBAZA) EEC IV will do what I want?
I searched for the A4A1 strategy and only came up with some posts about a 94 Towncar with a 4.6L? There was a dead link to an A4A1 bin.
EDIT - OK I found the A4A1 and A4A2 bin files in the thread link that Michael referenced.
Derek - Michael mentioned that you "have the complete A4A1 strategy" - and I know I need this to run EDIS on the CBAZA hardware - is that something that I need to purchase from you? Or ! only need it if I'm using BE vs Tunerpro?
As you can see I'm still learning the lingo about what works with what...
Thanks again guys for posting this info - I plan to purchase a Quarterhorse - but not sure to go with Tunerpro or BE - Tunerpro certainly looks cheaper !
Jim
PS- Michael - I found a post that mentioned changing out the 4R70W solenoids with AODE solenoids when running with a CBAZA box - but I don't think you did that in your 91 Supercoupe 4R70W swap - is it required?

Re: Adapting CBAZA (94/95 Mustang) to run 4R70W and EDIS
sol A B tot mlps oss vss are the exact same, the ONLY difference will be the tcc solenoid, if you use an eec-iv then you will need the 1 ohm tcc, if you use an eec-v then youll need a 10 ohm tcc
Re: Adapting CBAZA (94/95 Mustang) to run 4R70W and EDIS
This is fascinating. I've wanted to do an EDIS conversion on my T4M0 for some time, but I had long since given up the dream. So I would have to purchase a U4P0 ECU to run A4A1 in my manual GT?
I always thought the hardware was identical between CBAZA ECUs and only the loaded strategy was different. What are the hardware differences between the manual and auto ECU that are required for A4A1 and EDIS?

Re: Adapting CBAZA (94/95 Mustang) to run 4R70W and EDIS
there are none, I've never tried running a manual ecu on an auto it was always believed it lacked the additional solenoid controls , try it out and see what you get, you don't need an auto ecu for a manual though regardless
Re: Adapting CBAZA (94/95 Mustang) to run 4R70W and EDIS
I am running the WH40 CBAZA on my 1966 Bronco with a Supercharged 1995 5.8L, 1998 4R70W. I use the TwEECer to tune it. I have not considered the EDIS, what would the advantage be?

Re: Adapting CBAZA (94/95 Mustang) to run 4R70W and EDIS
significantly hotter more accurate reliable and durable spark
i dont recommend an eec4 if your going edis, instead its best to upgrade to an eec-v and coil on plug
