Starting problems with QH chip installed

Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Post by lildevil308 » Mon Apr 30, 2018 9:28 am

Had the car tuned, finally seemed to get it tuned ok. Got home and car wouldn't start. Pulled QH chip out and it started. Waited about 2 hrs put chip back in started a couple times than wouldn't start again.Pulled chip and it starts. Not sure where to go from here, any help would be appreciated.I'm running a A9L computer.

Give some info about what ECU your working with and basic rundown of equipment changes from stock. A copy of your tune would also help.

It sounds like a cranking fuel issue. Possibly clipped too much at higher ECT values.

Edit..... somehow I missed that you said A9L

Most of my mods are in my signature. It could very well be a cranking fuel issue.Pump cycles ok when key is turned on.Cleaned ecm terminals and didn't make any difference. It will start several times with chip in than all of a sudden wont start at all.I will see if my tuner will email me a copy of the tune. For some reason I remember him having issues with the maf.

You should be able to pull the tune yourself. I don't see any mention of what tuning software your using but if your relying on someone else ......I would at minimum install TunerPro so you can build on your tune.

Ok ......no problem..... everyone is new at some point.

Most people get a QH for self tuning. It's unusual to hear someone is only using it as a chip. You have a fantastic tool to dial in your car and my point regarding software was for you to set-up your own so you can fix the tuners rushed job.

It's in your best interest to look into getting Binary Editor (BE) at small cost or look at TunerPro RT which is free but not as friendly. Once you have one of those you no longer have to rely on someone else to make changes to your tune. Both programs will allow you to read the current tune on the QH and datalog so you can see what's going on in real time. If this is of no interest to you.....I highly recommend you have your tune burned to chip that doesn't require a battery.
