PSA about BE version 5.136 and Sailorbob Defs

Post by ironmanisanemic » Sat Jun 09, 2018 9:56 am

Hello,

Just to inform everyone, a new BE version rolled out recently. As of this writing it breaks compatibility with all of Sailorbobs definitions. So if you use Sailorbobs defs, you will need to stay on version 5.122 or earlier. This appears to be the last version that is still supports Sailorbobs defs. If you also use the CoreTuning Database, i would suggest to make a backup copy of BE to use Sailorbob defs, and another copy that you can keep up to date for the database.

BE is still listed as 5.119 on the eecanalyzer site, where is 5.122 available from?

Do you know what has changed in 5.136 to cause the issue?
Cheers

I got both editions from the update program that's included with BE. I've often found that the website is often a last priority for updates.

The only thing I can gather is that the whole data logging system within how BE interacts with def files has changed. The problem you will have is the data logging errors out on def load. The tuning side seems unaffected though.

I reached out to sailorbob and he said the newest version is incompatible with his defs. I'm waiting to hear back if he plans to update them to match the new BE update.

I have BE auto updates turned off, due to the varying quality of the updates.

Maybe the website only gets updated with stable versions after all the auto update-beta testers have proven it.

I would appreciate a copy on 5.122 if any one can help with that?

I wonder if the required def changes are actually published by Clint in the help file or somewhere?
Cheers

Can those definitions be opened in Excel? If the problem is the same as the public LA3, it's an easy fix as long as you are able to edit the definition.

Turns out I had to change "signed" bytes from numeric 0/1 to words True/False on the "Payload" tab. I also found that tables and functions did not appear under subheadings yet they we're all listed. I ended up having to go through and re-order the "Levels" with sequential numbering then go through the definition file assigning the new numbers. Apparently BE doesn't like random ordering on the Levels tab anymore.

I have touched base with Clint already letting him know what I did to fix the problem. Maybe he will push another update.

Good luck

Sorry for the delayed responses

5.136 has a lot of changes that customers have been asking for. You can look the whats new before you download any of the updates. You can also read the revision log and see the same thing.

Yes the strategies went through a minor change. BE uses a column called SIGNED on almost all tabs within the strategy. I was very inconsistent with how I implemented it. (Shame on Me). I now have correct this and all of the SIGNED columns now use a TRUE and FALSE rather than a 0 and 1. It is not a big change but it did cause all of the strategies to change.

his broke all of the databases for Core Tuning but Ben Head was on top of it and got all of those fixed prior to me releasing 5.136. I told Bob AKA sailorbob this prior to the release too. Bob is still on a Windows XP PC and the newer BE will not run on XP as it requires dot NET 4.5 or higher. I tried to go back to a older version of Dot Net but this broke also of t new features in BE. ca not regress back at this point.

Since bob is on Windows XP and dot net 4.5 is not compatible with his PC he is stuck using the older version. Bob can not test any of his strategies on the new build therefore 5.122 is the latest for his strategies.

If any of you are having issues with BE, please email me so I can fix the issues in BE.....

Hey Clint,

How about hosting an older version of BE on your download page for those that get stuck?

Bob that is what I recall you telling me. If not then I'm sorry. BE should work on windows 7 and above with no issues. Maybe you and I can go offline and try to get this to work again. I was reverting BE back to Dot Net 4.0.3 trying to get it to work on XP for you. I completely mis understood then.

How the heck to I come up with you being on windows 95 then I meant windows XP. Must be my old age. Again sorry. Either way dot net 4.0.3 is the latest version for windows XP

Just got an update for 5.137, and according to the changelog it is backwards compatable with older defs.
1.1 BUILD 137 RELEASE DATE 24-JUN-2018
General

· Made strategies backward compatible.

· Fixed bug in Drop down scalars
I tested it out with Sailorbobs CBAZA def, and it works just like its supposed to.

Thanks to Clint for getting a fix going, so we werent stuck with having 2 copies of BE on our computers.
