Output Shaft Limiter Stages?

Can anyone tell me what these are used for?
I found these in my ‘Scalars’ and under ‘Limiters - Ignition and Speed’. The units are in rpm. The definition file doesn’t mention its purpose.

4x4 output shaft limiter ,to me, sounds like it could be related either to a PTO or to the front shaft. If you have it going to fast, bad things could happen, and that RPM wont be engine RPM because of gearing and choice of tcase gear. so it may have progressive cutting of fueling or maybe it does something else. but not sure

That explanation sounds good to me. I don’t think these ever get changed from factory setting. Thanks
