New to this Board. . . and the TwEECer

Post by Italian LX » Thu Jul 22, 2004 3:29 pm

A frind of mine (LEE93COBRA) got me interested in the TwEECer about a year ago and I finally bought my own. I have an '88 LX coupe that I converted from a 4-cylinder and added all of the basic bolt-ons.

I just registered the other day and am already overwhelmed with informaton. Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone on the board. This TwEECer stuff so addictive so I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of time on here.

Cool, I was actually going to do that; just been pretty busy lately with a couple other projects.

I am new here too. I also purchased a TwEECer from LEE93Cobra and are good friends with he and Italian LX. I have already posted some information and questions, but I have been wearing out the search function mostly.

Its good to have a place like this for support.

Well we are going on Oct 14th - 18th. You ought to meet us up there on Friday or Saturday. Nothing like taking corners at insane speeds with a cliff only 10ft away.

Didn't know you were aware of the Mafia. Our reputation preceeds us.

Yep, known about it for a while, and know Lee for any longer. Never met personally, but known via internet for several years.

In fact, bought some Steeda CC plates from him about a month or two ago...

Can't take those turn at insane speeds, as the wife and 2 kids are usually with me. :D

BTW, I've been all the way down to the bowels of Fontana dam, all the way to the turbine room, as my dad works for TVA and took me on the grand tour when he was up there one day. Believe it or not, there are stalagmites and stalagtites all in the lower levels. My papaw was actually on the construction team that built the dam in the 1940's...

Sorry, since 9/11 they are quite a bit more selective about who goes where. Plus, Dad isn't stationed there any more, he's at Fort Loudon...

FWIW, Fontana Dam has the greatest difference in water height from the resovoir side to the downstream side of any of TVA's dams.

Papaw (98 years old now) kept telling Dad that if he found a pair of channel locks on the downstream side, they were his from 50 years ago - he dropped them from the top of the dam by accident...

I've currently got the one where you guys were at an overlook, with the sun setting behind the cars, so you could only see the cars' silhoutte and the mountains...

There's a few videos floating around the net of our last trip up there; maybe I can find a link for you.

Yet another nice shot - tripod mounted, I assume? What camera do you use?

Grabbed a few other pix from the linked thread, I'm set on desktop pix for a while now.

Yes, I did use a tripod on those pics. The camera used is a Sony DSC-P10; it takes really nice pics for such a compact camera.

Whassup people.

Decided to visit for the first time in quite awhile.

Richard I was up your way last week. Is Dynasty Spas where you work? I was thinking that I remembered you mentioning it a few months back.

By the way Nathan, I mentioned it to Brian already but I may have found us a slight route change for when we head up to Deals Gap. Richard will probably confirm this.

Instead of getting off 75 at Cleveland and taking 411 (along with misc goat trails) to Tellico Plains, I think we should head up to the Sweetwater exit and go that way to Tellico Plains.

Judging by my trip up to Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg last week. I think we could save at least 30 minutes by going that way to hit Cherohala on the way in that night.

We might could go snatch Richard out of bed and make him get the cobra out as well :D

-Lee

P.S. Richard, Italian LX is one of the DSP partners as well

All of them were taken with a Sony DSC-P10. In all but one, the pics were resized, so the original resolution is actually better than what you see.

Lee - yes, Dynasty Spas is where I work, exit #49. You can easily see us on the interstate on the left going north on I-75.

And yes, definitely go to the 1st Sweetwater exit, get on Highway 68, and it takes you right into Tellico Plains. It will take you an hour, give or take, to hit Sweetwater from Cleveland, and then 30 minutes from Sweetwater to Tellico Plains.

I'll gladly come out and meet up with you guys somewhere... :D
Still don't have my mk8 fan install finished, haven't been able to touch it in over a week, as the past week and a half has been hell week:

• Saturday before last, put a 10" crease in my wife's Lexus RX300 (a railroad tie jumped up and slapped the side of the car) ($375 dollars worth)
• Got the car back on Thursday, got tires put on it ($328 plus tax)
• Friday night, house a/c unit got hit by lightning - whole unit is toast. First thought it was just compressor (1000 bux), but luckily, homeowners paid for a new unit ($4500)
• Dog died on Sunday night
• Went without a/c from Fri. night to Tuesday evening
• Spent the whole weekend with my mother in law until 9:00 every night, as house was too hot for the kids to be inside
• Bushhogged 10 acres on Monday, lacked 10 minutes finishing and snapped the shear pin on the bushhog
• Mother In Law's boyfriend turned his 650# Simplicity mower on a bank. He was physically upside down in the seat with the mower upside down on him. He managed to roll it off, but has a nasty bruise on his leg where the mower was on it. Probably bruised the bone, as his leg was swelled pretty badly

86GT - I'm pretty partial to the Nikon Coolpix line - easy to use, swivel LCD screen, manual and auto settings - I like the look of the Coolpix 5400, myself, and use a Coolpix 4500 regularly at work

I had a Kodak 4900, but the daughter droped it, and now it does not work. I have been looking at the canon G1. It has a 10X optical zoom and takes really good pics. The only thing is that it is only 3.2meg.

I was disapointed in the kodak, even tho it was a 4meg. It did not have enough zoom and its pictures were blury. In order for the pics to turn out it seemed as if it needed a tri pod, and lots of light. It did not take good pic at night.

I liked how fast the canon was to boot up and how fast it focused. It also has the good zoom.

The ones that I have been looking at are the
HP-945
Canon S1 iS
Kodak 7590

The HP and Kodak are 5.0 meg while the canon is a 3.2. They all have the 10X optical zoom. The kodak and HP do not focus a quick.

So, what do you think? Maybe I am missing another brand or make.

Don't know what price range you are looking, but the Canon EOS Digital Rebel is a very nice camera as well. It will take standard Canon SLR lenses, is 5 megapixel (i believe), and prices in the 950 range with a lense.

Never cared for the Kodak cameras, and the HP's - well, I think they should stick with PC's, and get out of the camera business. I would stick with a company who has great film cameras - Nikon, cannon, Minolta, etc.

Here's a decent review site:

I feel your pain on the a/c stuff Richard. Our current system I believe at the beginning stages of the nickel and dime you to death repairs. Since it is 20 years old we decided to go ahead and get a heat pump put in next week. ($$$$ :( )
Yeah I saw the spa place when we were coming back home last Thursday and was about 95% sure that it was where you worked.

On the camera comments, we recently purchased a Canon G5 and we love it. Wife and I still need to learn the some of the settings because 'auto' does not work well for all scenes. (Cost was $550 w/ extra 256m card)

Don't know if you know this or not, but TVA offers low interest loans for heat pumps. Rate is 6%, can be up to 10 years, goes through your local utility board and the payments go through your electric bill.

In fact, you can even get additional attic insulation and storm windows at the same time.

Check your local utility board, as they have the information, as well as a list of qualified installers. This assumes that TVA is providing electricity to your area.

We were going to go that route until homeowners coverd all but $250 of our new unit. Our old unit was 6.5 years old.

20 years old is a great life span for a heat pump, you are very lucky it lasted that long.
