Mike- twEECer still not working... "invalid or unsuppor

Post by NCSUslow5.0 » Tue Apr 01, 2003 5:15 pm

Mike I got my Tweecer back from you on Saturday. (I sent it to you to have the firmware reinstalled) It is still running the pump and fan continuosly and when i click "read EEC" it pops up "Invalid or unsupported Bianary". It does read the tweecer. I guess you saved a program for a 306cid engine in 2 of the slots? Anyways, i dont know what else to do. I've tried grinding the face of the case, spacing the tweecer off the eec, andcleaned the J3 port down to the copper. Shawn, jump in here and fill in what i left out! What is wrong with this? :(
thanks, Ben

Ya,

I agree man.. We even tried to use another EEC which I cleaned myself a few times and it had the same problem.. This was prior to your upgrade. I'm going to have Ben try hooking the tweecer in that guys car and see what happens.

Any ideas anyone?

Guys,

I dont know what to say, it worked perfect for me on my 93 A3M and 94 GT T4M0. I would check the BIOS setting for the parallel port mode. Use standard or EPP -- do NOT use ECP as it is unreliable.

My old Dell runs Win95B with EPP bios emulation for the LPT port. Also, if reading the EEC is the ONLY problem then download or email me for a virgin binary and start with it.
Best regards,

Update

Post by NCSUslow5.0 » Sun Apr 13, 2003 5:40 pm

After working with this thing all day, here is where I'm at...
1. When i plug the Tweecer into the EEC the fan and pump start running.
2. I click "Read tweecer and the fan&pump will stop momentarily, then start again.
3. sometimes after reading the tweecer the values in Scalars make sense, sometimes they dont.
4. Then i click "read EEC" it either says "failed to connect" or a window pops up that says "unsupported binary"
5. I downloaded T4mo.bin and clicked the "input file" button and selected it where i downloaded it. I have to change the "files of type" box to "Ford EEC Binaries" in order to select it. After i do that it still gives me the "unsupported binary" window.
What gives? :x
Reading and writing the Tweecer seems to be working, it wont read the EEC though...

Probably has the "invalid binary" in that location. Email me at info@tweecer.com and I will send you a known good T4M0 bin. We have had problems with the one on the website, though I have replaced it several times. shrug.

Sounds like you have a connection problem, can you try it on a fox body (A9L family) processor. Go ahead and email me and I will get a T4M0 and J4J1 binary off to you to try. BTW, are you reading the EEC in the car? Did you check the bios setting on your laptop? Which OS are you running.

I wrote the T4mo bin you sent me to all switch positions and the fan& pump still run when the key is on. I'm doing all tweaking with the computer in the car with the key on. I'll try it on a foxbody tonight hopefully. I've been using a "new" laptop with Win '95 on it. You were right about the ECP on the other laptop. Unfortunately it is my gf's from school and they have some kind of software installed that doesnt allow you to change that.

PS- what is "EEC strategy"? mine says CBAZA. do i need to and how do I change that?

CBAZA is the EEC strategy for the 94-95 cars, I believe it to be limited to those years, at least on Mustangs, It is "read" or determined by the EEC that the TwEECer is connected to and shouldn't be changable. Mike, correct me if I have mispoken.

update

Post by NCSUslow5.0 » Wed Apr 16, 2003 1:56 pm

I tried the tweecer on my buddy's 91 coupe today. I downloaded the A9l file off the website and wrote it to the tweecer. It did the same thing on his car as on mine. The fuel pump ran continuosly, would stop while it read the Tweecer, and then wouldnt read the EEC. When I click "read EEC" on his car a bunch of stuff started clicking and wouldnt stop until the key was removed. It still came back with "Invalid or unsupported Bianary"
Are you positive it worked when you tested it? I thought it might be a problem with my J3 port but now it seems like a tweecer problem.

desmo996- thanks

This may sound silly, but have you guys cleaned the TWEECER?? the connector that goes over the J3 port?? maybe something got in there and is causing the problem, is a Shot in the dark. I will admit these sporadic failures have me a bit concerned about getting one, though I will still get it long before I go to any other product..

lamrith- yes, we cleaned both the J3 and the tweecer with elec connector cleaner from radio shack as well as with alchohol, etc. This thread is not intended to dissuade anyone from buying one of these. Plenty of people have had a lot of success with these. I'm just trying to join them.

Hey Ben,

I just dont know what to tell you, while it was here I read the A9L and an L2W (same hardware as a T4M0) at least a dozen times (total) and wrote to the tweecer. I flashed the tune for my 93Coupe and ran it in my car during an entire day of errands (had mine with me as a backup!!). We ran it in my buddies 94 Convertible for a trip to the parts house and corner store.

What common factor is there in your tests? Are you using the same laptop for each car you are using it in or have you tried other laptops? Each one will need the proper bios setting for the parallel port. Which version of the software are you using, still the 1.20B3?

Ben's TwEECer is 2+ years old and is one of our original LPT TwEECers and was operating fine (correct me if I am remembering incorrectly) until some recent issue??? Whom did you purchase it from? I know it used and you are not the original owner, correct?
Best regards,

Mike Glover

Mike you are correct, I bought this used from a guy that goes by "David95GT" that has a yellow '95 gt. He was able to raise my idle when I met him to prove to me it worked.

I've been using the same laptop. I've also tried a different laptop and hauled 2 desktops out to the garage. I'm assuming since it lets me write to the Tweecer and read the tweecer that the BIOS is set right.?? I'm trying to buy another T4MO. Thats the only thing I can think to try. suggestions?

This may not be what you want to hear, but if reading the EEC is the ONLY thing that is NOT working (I thought it was not letting you write to it either) then just use the binaries which are available. You should only need to read the eec once, then save the file to disk and use it as your starting point. I know it is kind of like sex with a condom, but it gets the job done.
Best regards,
