3000hp dyno session

I just think this is too cool not to share. Top left video, big block Ford with A heads, not to shabby.

Not too shabby is an understatement! Just plain sick. :gears:

Thanks, we are very pleased with this one, especially considering the heads.

For comparison. One of our typical procharged engines is down 500hp to this motor at the same boost and rpm. Think about that one for a minute.

Turbos in these applications always seem to prove to be more efficient at making power than blowers.

Oh I agree, it is fact that the big blowers take big power to drive. 500hp sounds about right to me in this application.

I was going to mention that it takes a certain amount of horsepower to drive a supercharger but I didnt want people to get into a tizzy... Even the smaller street blowers like the s-troms and d-1 prochargers take power to drive em. Hell look at the old paxton sn-series superchargers. You might as well spray a car instead.....

No doubt, nitrous is quite appealing on a street vehicle sometimes. That is if you don't get greedy and have a clue how to set it up.

Procharger says at a "little" over max rpm an F3 139 will take as much as 800hp to turn. Its kind of cool that a crankshaft can handle that kind of load on the front while its trying to twist itself apart against the drivetrain on the other end. So in reality one of our 2300hp blower motors is making the same cylinder pressures as this turbo motor.

very nice cougar, it's always cool to see an engine make good powah, you should try to convince steve to slap a stock ford ecu on one of them 3k+ jewels, that would be pretty cool :) just a thought

Eh, a lot of added complexity for no gain. Between finding a suitable maf and trying to drive 16 low impedance injectors it would just be a large headache. Not to mention all the launch control, timing retards, boost controls, etc that make getting the car down the track much easier with an aftermarket ecu. I have thought about making an EEC work in one of our typical motors a few times and it just is not practical.

The Ford EEC's have there place don't get me wrong but at some point you have to weigh the pluses of an aftermarket ecu against them and just make the swap. Where that point is varies on the person and the car's use among other things but the EECs do have limits.

I share your same sentiment regarding maf and injector drivers and such. It has its place. Our supercharged pro 5.0 car back in the late 90's ran a 119 mm maf (basically the size of a coffee can with a sensor in it for descriptive purposes) that was custom made by my boss at the time. I think we were the only ones back then running mass air and a stand alone epec back then while everyone else was running dfi. We were the only car in the 7's then with maf and it was always a pain in the ass to get it tuned right to break even and stay competitve with the dfi guys. Maf tuning was just so tempermental back then. Technology has come a long way since then.

Its cool until the crankshaft decides to vacate its home and move into your radiator 1000' out. Ask me how I know...

How do you know? lol That would seriously suck though, did you keep the car under control?

I haven't had a customer crank break ever but have seen one or two come in that way due to inferior quality cranks for the power level. I hear a lot more people tell me there balancer went flying across the track because they didn't realize they had to add a second keyway.

Oh, and we call that a dynamic dis-assembly at the shop.

we snapped a crank in a late model engine a few years back. broke by the #2 main next to the rod journal. also cracked out the front of the block, bent rods/valves/etc, basically junk. What happens when you have a ton of traction, and a 30 year old block (sbc 400 from the 70s, heh). We got probably 6-8 years out of it though just rebuilding every season.

Also saw another big hp sbc snap a crank this year in a late model. same type deal.
