EECV tuners stand up and be counted

Post by PoweredbyEECV » Sun Jan 22, 2012 6:53 pm

It doesn't seem like there are many EECV tuners here as most of the conversation seems to be centered around EECIV PCM's. If you tune EECV's please identify yourself so we know who you are. Thanks.

I plan to be tuning an EEC-V in the next couple weeks. Just waiting for a strategy file to be ready.

Are there any threads on this forum that discuss the differences between tuning EEC-IV and EEC-V?

I can't think of any specifically but try doing a search and see what comes up. The most significant differences in the 2 PCM's include the following (I will add to this if I think of any others):
* Federally mandated addition of OBDII in 1996.
* Tuning an EECV can be accomplished with a J3 chip/tuner and/or re-flashing the PCM.
* EECV has a faster processor and more on board memory.
* PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) was introduced about the same time as EECV and while it is a separate system/module it is "married" to the vehicles EECV computer and when activated instructs the PCM to cut fuel to the injectors. It is one of the best vehicle security systems available IMO.

I had a J3 chip before Flash Tuning became available, then I had an SCT X-CAL1 flash tuner, now back via J3 with the QH. Great to have both options available.

I prefer the J3 chip method of tuning so the original factory calibration is not disturbed. It's just a personal preference.

Personally, given the option, I'd rather flash the PCM. If you have a heavily modified car, the stock calibration would likely be useless anyway. The QH is great, but in my case, if something were to happen to the QH, my car won't even start, let alone run on the factory calibration. I'd like to be able to flash at least a good base tune that will run my car to the PCM in the unlikely event something were to happen to the QH. IMO, the biggest advantage to flashing the PCM is there is zero chance of problems related to the chip coming loose or corrosion on the contacts causing comms issues.

JMO though.

What EEC-V ecu's are broken out well enough to be tunable with a QuarterHorse?

I'm starting to consider the option of swapping from the T4M0 to eec-v, but what ecu's are options for a J3 tuner?

I'm running a FBFG2 based EEC-V out of an 04 Mustang GT with a very well broken out Strategy. You might want to contact Adam at Popsracing to see what other strategies he has. I think he's got quite a few.

Do all of the EEC-V ecu's allow for true CoP functionality?

From what I have gathered, most EDIS setups can be converted to run the coil packs, but it would still be wasted spark.

I looked through CDAN4, are there others that may be more appropriate for a 4 cylinder conversion?
Are there any EEC-V ecu's that have boost control functions?

Thanks for humoring my curiosity...

No, they don't. It depends on the vehicle. the 96/07 MN12's had coil pack so those PCM's don't support true COP. The 97/98 Mark VIII does support COP. 99+ Mustangs support COP. Yes, you can set up a non-COP PCM to run COPs in waste spark config, but it didn't work well when I tried it. Plus then there's reall no benefit over coil packs that way. I've also heard that COPs in Waste Spark can have weaker spark that may not work well with forced induction. Personally, I'd either leave it coil packs or do a proper conversion like I did.

I used a PCM out of an 04 Mustang GT, the body harness out of a 96/97 Cougar, and the engine harness out of a 03/04 Mustang GT and modified all hanresses to work with the PCM and each other. This went into my 95 Cougar.

I've joined the ranks of EEC-V tuners. CDAN4 using Sailorbob's definition and BE '12 using TwEECer RT at the moment. It seems that my Quarterhorse crapped out and I need to send it back for RMA. I've yet to get the motor started, but I'm working on it!

You can reflash using a goose from drewtech and BE or the pay-for subscription s/w that comes with the goose

You can also flash through the j3 port using the QH but thats top secret stuff though only those in the know are aware of

Howdy,

Add me to the list of EEC-V uses.

Here's a YouTube video of my first "Offical" go cart drive.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G4s0tVmpc2c

I still have a lot of tuning to do but it runs, is drivable, doesn't overheat and restarts every time. Cold starts are tough but I need to work on that too.

There's about 500 more tables, functions, and scalars than EEC-IV. The baro sensor is inferred, the firmware's obviously quite a bit different. Where's the WOT Spark Advance vs RPM curve? Oh that's right, it's now in an MBT Spark Table somewhere... and the transmission related items are pretty pervasive. As for scalars however, you're right... not too different.

Maybe the later versions of EEC-IV tried to do EEC-V on EEC-IV hardware, but Ford eventually realized they needed more RAM, clock speed, and more peripheral I/O to really make it work. Hence the additional 44 pins on the connector, integration of EDIS and transmission control, OBD-II, etc. It's definitely an evolution of the venerable EEC-IV.
