"CRAIA" 99 CROWN VIC vs "CRAI8" 98 MUSTANG
I noticed that a bunch of the memory locations were the same between the two so i figured i'd give it a shot, well it worked so I tuned a 99 crown vic yesterday by writing a modified crai8 calibration to it, the only meaningful difference between the 99 vic and the 98 stang is that the ECT moved from pin 38 to pin 42, according to the wiring diagram the 99cv ECT sensor also goes to the cluster. I moved pin 42 to 38 and still can't get it to function correctly. Due to the wiring diagram showing that the ECT runs through the cluster, im thinking maybe this signal isn't a typical ECT signal? however I don't see a cluster out, and the diagram shows its getting source from vref which is shared with the IAT which works fine, so i can only assume its only in parallel with the cluster? This damn p0118 code is pissing me off.
any thoughts?
also if anyone knows any differences between the 98 gt and the 99 cv please do enlighten me, AFAIK the only differences are the 2spd pump in the 98gt and single in the 99cv, and the 99cv has a CHT where as the 98gt doesn't.
I have a supercharged 99cv waiting for a tune so I really need to get all the bugs worked out before hand. thanks in advance

Re: "CRAIA" 99 CROWN VIC vs "CRAI8" 98 MUSTANG
ECT is typically an analog voltage that requires an ADC to be interpreted properly, which ECMs are great at doing, but a dash cluster taking in raw ADC voltage? It's possible it's a CAN bus signal, not sure when CVs went to CAN, tho.

no not possible, iirc 2005, it goes to the cluster, just not sure what else its doing, none the less its not reading at the ecu for some reason, yet reads fine with the craia cal, thanks for the input though

Re: "CRAIA" 99 CROWN VIC vs "CRAI8" 98 MUSTANG
Well, according to the 1st schematic you posted, the ECT signal goes to pin 42 as you indicated, but is also spliced (I'm assuming that's what S222 means) and run to pins 4 or 5 on the cluster connector, depending on whether it's an analog or digital dash. Which type of dash cluster are you dealing with?

analogue dash, I think im going to yank the cluster and run the engine, see if it then reads ect correctly

update, now the damn fan is.running non stop with ign off
time to load stocker back in

Re: "CRAIA" 99 CROWN VIC vs "CRAI8" 98 MUSTANG
Sounds ugly. I'd check the ECM pinouts again and verify the schematics are correct. Could also be definition file screw up?

Re: "CRAIA" 99 CROWN VIC vs "CRAI8" 98 MUSTANG
for some odd reason she shut off and wouldnt fire back up, loaded the stocker back and now all is well, oh well no crai8 in lieu of craia

Re: "CRAIA" 99 CROWN VIC vs "CRAI8" 98 MUSTANG
oh just to add, pin 42 is obviously for the high speed fan as it kept getting upset about it with the pin moved, the wiring diagram has to be wrong or maybe the car is a late 98? anyway, the ac clutch was getting back grounded and forced the a/c compressor to stay on, it blew the high pressure line early today
so crai8 in a craia ecu is a bad idea unless you can access the pin scalars for ect fan and acc

Re: "CRAIA" 99 CROWN VIC vs "CRAI8" 98 MUSTANG
The circuitry inside the ECU might be different such that it won't work correctly. Things like pull up resistors can screw you up. ie the 2.3t guys converting to MAF while keeping the 2.3t ECU have issues in that the ACT that's part of the VAM has a different resistance range than the standard Ford ACT sensor so they can't just plug a standard ACT sensor in in place of the one in the VAM. The end solution was to rescale the input because they were reasonably close but I doubt that will work for you.
Can you hack the bin to change the pin the input/driver is on?

Re: "CRAIA" 99 CROWN VIC vs "CRAI8" 98 MUSTANG
no need in 'hacking' the bin, all 98+ ecus have pin scalars specifically for that purpose
i tuned the thing with the correct craia strat and he hasnt had a problem since, its been 2 months
amazing how much they pick up, can actually spin the tires now :)

Re: "CRAIA" 99 CROWN VIC vs "CRAI8" 98 MUSTANG
well out of the blue the same 99 crown vic with the craia strategy that has been running fine for the past 6 months obviously got tired of running so well and erased itself, odd stuff indeed, im led to believe the ecu is faulty
reflashed and all is well in the world (for maybe another 6 months)
anyone ever experie'yaunce this?
