New PB, almost 11's but not quite

Post by TooSlo86 » Mon Oct 01, 2012 9:49 am

Took the car back out hoping for some really good air, turns out it was decent, and the track was great. Set a new 60 foot pb on the bias plys of 1.58, and a 1.61 on the radials. Ended up best pass was at 1164 DA and it went 12.026@114.50, what a tease! Clutch started slipping so I had to call it a day early, maybe 11's next time.

That would more than do it, and probably overtax the stock bottom end. Heck, a little 75 or 100 would do it, but then that wouldn't fit in with my goal. I want 11's out of a stock s/b, and stock heads all motor first. Then we'll move on to bigger and better things, still NA though.

Yea, the problem is, it wasn't slipping in those passes. It was on the bad ones I didn't waste time to upload. It got to a point that it slipped right off the line and flared up really bad at gearshifts. I'm not sure re-adjusting it and street driving is going to bring it around like my old one. Bummer is, this one is only this season old! Not to mention if it doesn't come around I'll have to wait till next spring to take a crack at the 11s. :x

That's flying for what you got. Are those power numbers posted WITH the new custom cam? I've seen a lot of HCI cars fall short of your numbers. congrats

Yes, that is with the custom cam in street trim, ie; through the mufflers with a full belt. Last year with the old B2 cam in the same configuration it made 303/337 through flowmasters and shorties, when I bypassed the p/s pump and opened the headers it went to 317/346 on the same day. This spring with the long tubes, dynomax muffs B2 cam and a switch from 3.73 to 4.30s it put 310/334 down. So the cam alone gave it the 19/19 gain, but what is cool is the peak #'s are just part of it! Now I can't bypass the p/s pump and have no cut outs on the new exhaust so every pull, or pass at the track is basically how I drive it daily minus shock settings and tires. And yes, there are no shortage of HCI cars failing to take the time to really dial in their set ups.

Thanks

I really hope I don't have to wait that long to do it, but they did cancel todays tnt due to cold. That leaves only 2 more opportunities.

You know it's nuts, I just scaled the car yesterday and she's still heavier than I was hoping I had gotten it down to. I was at 3155 with me and a full tank, bah. Got some more dieting to do.

Maybe I'll pull off the front bumper for the last ditch effort  That's 43lbs with the absorbers where it counts, from the nose!

You sound a lot like me. Almost everytime I have anything apart, the car loses some weight. Maybe only a few ounces, maybe a few pounds. It really adds up. The front bumper support is coming off mine this winter for a for little holesaw treatment. My 94GT was a pig when I started.

I try! I've been trying to remove non essentials while still keeping it street friendly for the daily commute, (even as far as shortening bolts) but today is it's last day of daily service for the season so I think I may go nuts

Shortening bolts to lose weight? You know they make medicine for guys like you right.

kidding, I got it almost that bad. I'm not removing door panels or anything like that, but there are a thousand places to lose a little weight without affecting safety or appearance.

Yup, and look at it in this twisted light; 1000 ounces=62.5lbs. I took more off from the firewall forward last winter without sacrificing either. I'm not going with stuff like door panels and what-not as it needs to appear "stock". I still haven't even scratched the surface as evidenced in my 3155lbs with me and a full tank weigh in on Saturday. Oh the things I could do if I was willing to hack it up...... :surprised:

Since Ed revived it, I'll add my excitement. SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY! It's then or next spring to get that 11.xx slip! From when it went 12.02 I pulled 92#s out of it since I'm not street driving it anymore this year. Weather is looking ok, nothing spectacular, just hopefully not windy as it has been. Can't wait!
